Frontier Town - the next midway to be transformed

I get what you're saying but in this day and age we have these awesome devices called CELL PHONES. Mom takes little Joey to Camp Snoopy while Dad waits in the long line for Maverick with Johnny. When Dad is close to the station he can "call" or "text" Mom that they will be riding soon. Mom and Jimmy head back towards Maverick, meet Dad at the exit, parent swap (Johnny gets to ride 2x), then move on to the next attraction...

I agree with the comment about Frontier Town/Trail not needing a change, but the Main Midway does.

Other than a new flume, RMC MS, and minor tweaks, I don't think I want to see much change to the frontier areas.

Now the Main Midway I've long thought most of it looks woefully tacky and butt-arse ugly, starting with the exterior of the colosseum. It looks too much like a carnival. Maybe a complete facelift to theme it like a vintage amusement park / Boardwalk with a modern touch, much like the design they did on Breakers. That would be sweet!

I was bored so I doodled a new MS midway. Main features include a new entrance and a dark ride inside the infield of MS as well as a couple new flat rides.

Can you squeeze Rip Cord in there near Slingshot?

I'd rather it wasn't... Otherwise it looks good.

I just find it ironic that you suggested a facelift to a building to give it a vintage amusement park theme when the building in question IS a vintage amusement park building.

Next time that you are bored, want to work on my homework? Just kidding dude. Looks like a nice concept.

That's an awfully tiny dark ride and it would be a waste of space if the infield were to become part of some expansion. I think people don't realize how big those show buildings are and how hard they are to hide. I can see an entrance to a dark ride from the infield, but with the building placed outside of the coaster area.

I got to visit three excellent parks in Europe over the last two weeks and one of the things that struck me was the complicated, often confusing layouts of the parks over there. There were many paths and different ways to get around, especially at Europa Park. It was actually difficult to see it all in one day, there was so much stuff everywhere.
Not that it was a bad thing, necessarily. Those packed, sometimes narrow pathways were charming, aided in keeping sight lines to a minimum, allowed for very creative architecture and landscaping, and added a layer of exploration to the experience. Those of us who grew up at Cedar Point have become accustomed to wide midways and continuous circuits everywhere with few dead ends. Most other regional parks and themers are layed out in the wagon wheel configuration to keep things moving. But that's not how it is everywhere, turns out, and I found the European parks with the opposite approach to be a refreshing change. Even if it did mean having a park map ready at all times.

So I'd be in favor of a smaller connector midway back there as CoasterGuy15 suggests. I'm not sure the scale is right and I don't see the need for another gate. Flats? Yes.

The colosseum is a century-old building painted over such that it looks like a 1970's circus exhibit.

Imagine Hotel Breakers were painted in tacky colors like the soak city slides, with an unimproved cinder-block exterior.

Then imagine I suggested they renovate the building cosmetically in a similar style as what they did to breakers (inside and out) a couple years ago, with perhaps a boardwalk theme.

That is what I am suggesting.

Now, apply that to the entire main midway, which is what I was referring to and which I think looks extremely tacky.

Obviously CP is a vintage amusement park. Take advantage of that heritage and the waterfront in any redesign, but make it look beautiful and stylish, maybe something like Main Street at The Mouse.

Yes, because the cornerstone to any memorable family vacation is to spend most of it separated from one another.

The point that people seem to be getting at is that there is far too little for most of the family to do together. Take a hard look at KI's Planet Snoopy next time you're there. They have a few solid attractions that everyone can ride and enjoy together - Race For Your Life Charlie Brown, Woodstock Express, Flying Ace Aerial Chase, Linus' Launcher, Boo Blasters all come immediately to mind as examples of rides CP has no counterpart to.

Simply adding a dark ride and a smallish flume like RFYLCB would go a long way toward rounding out CP's family attractions.

I'm not sure I quite understand the desire to add another gate 1,200 ft to the west of a newly-built gate, directly opposite Gemini.

I cant help but think the area is in for much bigger changes than what is shown in that diagram. Imagine removing the second big fan turn. This would completely open up a huge area and provide open views of what is left of mean streak and not bury it behind that big wall of wood.

I follow what you're saying. I agree I wish there was more for the entire family to do together. In fact in another thread I mentioned it would be cool in a different way if GCI did come in and refurb Mean Streak to make it more rideable, as that would be another attraction for my son and I to ride together. My argument was more towards CPfan talking about how there's nothing to do in the immediate area for Mom & Thing 2 while Dad takes Thing 1 on Maverick.

Distance from

Main Gate to Beach Entrance - 1,500 feet

Beach entrance to Breakers Entrance - 1700 feet

Main Gate to Marina - 1,600 feet.

The distance doesn't seem so far fetched.

The main gate to each other entrance comparison is completely illogical and has no bearing on why they are there.

Marina gate is obviously where it is for the intnended primary users.

Beach gate is at the end of a boardwalk that would result in a virtual dead end and also alleviating congestion at resort entrance.

We routinely stay at the cabins several times a year and also at sandcastle or breakers at least once a year, I do not see a reason to add another entrance for lighthouse point. There is routine free shuttle service for those that do not want to walk the distance.
Also, the additional daily payroll and capital improvements for this so enthusiasts have another gate to use as free preferred parking and use Instsead of the main gate is overkill

I mean...if you're a teenager haha. When I was in High School we took a cruise. My favorite moments were actually either by myself or with a group of other teens I found on the ship. Just saying :P

I do like the idea of putting a building for a dark ride in the infield of Mean Streak. That certainly gives them the opportunity to "hide" the structure and not use more valuable land elsewhere.

I don't think it will happen, but it sure is a hell of a long walk from the LHP cottages to the resort entrance. By my seat-of-the-pants estimation, it's about as far as walking from the very furthest corner of the main lot to the main entrance. That's a hike.

That's exactly the reason I prefer Breakers to LHP, especially these days. I always love the idea of having our own separate "cottage, but it really is a long walk - where you can stay at breakers for the same price, and it's brand new and right there.

As I'm still in my "youth" I have no issues walking to LHP from the resort gate. As it's usually very quiet back there it feels like less distance than walking through the herd to the front lot.
