Aside from the 2017 2018 RMC debate ,I am curious to hear thoughts on what may be in store for this larger scope area.
Perhaps by bringing in RMC this early along prior to 2018 has to do with the actual revamping of the entire midway. Might the second fan turn be coming down resulting in completely new vantage points and available area in front of the new ride?
I could see the extra year being used for preliminary infrastructure to the area.
I don't think they really need a huge new ride in 2017. But instead use it as a building year for when they unveil the new hotel tower and a fabulous new area.
I definitely think we will see work done to Frontier Town and Frontier Trail over the next few years. And as much as I'd like a path from Gemini that doesn't cross the tracks, it seems unnecessary. Ouimet is definitely looking to keep the park looking "new", and this is just one more area to focus on.
I'm still very hopeful that RMC will be for 2017, for part 1 of the sprucing up of that area. Then for 2018, part 2 of that project they connect the midways, relocate P&D to the mainland or over by the corporate offices. In the new midway, a new flat and family ride could be added along with some new concessions and shops, along with a new possible Lighthouse Point gate.

It makes more sense to me that the new ride be the shining high point of the new area rather than feature the ride first and then the surrounding new area.
Something like Ghost Town Alive! would be pretty cool. Obviously the setting is slightly different, but the live actors did a great job.
2018 will see the frontier town debut of the new 3pt game and coke station combo called Coke Freethrow.

Sorry to deviate from the topic at hand, but I don't think Frontier Town is that bad. It actually looks the part of a 19th century town. The midway most esthetically lacking now is the main midway. The landscaping underneath the Skyride is deplorable and the buildings are faded, old, and uninspired. I think this should be Cedar Point's next focus area, starting from the newly renovated main entrance all the way to Corkscrew, including Kiddy Kingdom, the Coliseum, the games area, the grassy area near the employee cafeteria, Midway Market, the pavilions, etc.
Mean Streak has been the coolest looking ride fitting in perfect with the area so hopefully it is not drastically changed. Would love a dark ride there if anything. I always see this huge coaster in between tracks and MS going behind Gemini though.

I don't know how much of the area needs to be updated (buildings, etc) since the theme is the "old west", but they are lacking in rides in Frontier Town/Trail. The only rides on that side of the tracks are CCMR, Maverick, Skyhawk, Wave Swinger, Antique Cars and the two water rides. No flat rides and really nothing for small kids.
Don't forget about CP & LE Railroad Station.

Luna, what do you plan on taking out to add more rides in Frontier Town or on the Trail? There are already 3 different dedicated kids areas of the park. Do they need a 4th?

DSShives, you had mentioned the frontier trail in your post. Now just so that we are all of the same page, this is ONLY my speculation & opinion as nothing has been announced/confirmed by Ceadr Point, Cedar Fair, or the Sandusky Register. So, MY speculation is that they (might & probably) will get a flume down the road as they kept the cement barriers and splash pools from Shoot the Rapids. Also, not saying that they are because don't know if it's true or false, but (if) they needed too, they (could) take out the petting zoo. Also, (if) the Gemini midway were to be connected to Mean Streak & the P & D building gets moved, they could put in lots of flat rides, food stands, shops, /and possibly a new show venue in that area. Again, these are just my speculations/opinions.

Just a thought, but they could create an entire little "world" in the mean streak in-field as part of a Frontier Town makeover.
I may have missed it, but I haven't seen anyone address the work that will be needed there. Eden Musee took the entire queue area from Mean Streak, save for the straight walk to the platform. That isn't going to be nearly enough for a coaster people want to ride.
In addition, if you are investing all this effort/money to re-vamp Mean Streak, and one could assume, bring it up to the world-class standard it should be at, the other building and clutter/junk on the far end of the in-field needs to go as well. Seeing cars parked there along with the junk ruins the theme.
Since something should be done with everything currently there, they have a huge opportunity here to make it immersive on another level. They could add a couple building facades themed to tie in with Frontier town, possibly with a dining option, a shop or maybe a small flat. The exit ramp from the platform could be redesigned to dump you back into the in-field to maintain the feeling built into the ride theme and the in-field area.
It's just a little over an acre, but lots of possibilities.
So with a focus on the resort experience, I would think a Sand Castle entrance is a possibility. With the new Breakers entrance now a "coaster experience" like Gatekeeper is at the front of the park. Could a new be on the other side of the infield? That would certainly change the whole overall feel of that area.
I'm not talking about another Camp Snoopy. A randomly placed flat (like the Monster or Troika) could be creatively squeezed in. STR site is available, the area in front of the train station across from the Emporium could be repurposed, the right side of Stockade Refreshments, the Gazzebo...
Two questions. How old is the P&D building? Wasn't there a recent addition added to it within the last 5 years or am I thinking about something else?
And the other question is where exactly is the amazement shop. Is that the ATM systems building across the street from Castaway Bay? Looking at google map, it looks like there's a ton of land to build a new P&D building there if it was moved off point. Or even next to Hotel Breakers where that plot of land is they use for track shipments? It seems like there's a lot of possibilities that don't involve it remaining on the point.
Not sure how old P & D is to be honest. The ATM building across the street from Castaway Bay is the Amazement Shop. I know that because when coming into the park from route 250, I jump on route 2 east, get off at route 6 west and come in on Cleveland Rd. to avoid all of the stopping and starting due to the traffic lights on route 250. Yes, there is land by the ATM shop to move P & D too. They (could) move it over by the corporate office building, but if I had to (guess), that probably wouldn't be an option since they just put in and are finishing up the brand new water tower. Plus, the maintance shop already takes up a good chunk of that land anyways.

If they were to add a new flat to Frontiertown (which would be great) I would love to see something like a Caterpillar (it would be a fun, good 'old-fashioned' ride to fit into the Wild West theme) or a Wild West (water barrels, water pumps) themed Top Spin featuring water jets. For those who haven't been on a Caterpillar, they are actually really fun flat rides, and as for a Top Spin, I have been on the one at Canada's Wonderland and they are fun. To fit into a Wild West Frontiertown theme, they could have barrels, water pumps, a water mill/wheel and those wooden channels on stilts that carry water around (I don't know what their name is, but they are like old, mini aqueducts).

I agree 100%. If you throw in rides that require you to be under "48, then there is absolutely nothing. I've emailed the park about this in the past. I think it's hard on parents than have "tweeners" (you know the one kid whose under 48" that can't ride Maverick yet) so they have to stay with Mom while Dad takes the 53" other child on Maverick. One thing I wish the park never did was take out the old Frontiertown Carousel next to Frontier Inn. Even though this building now houses Eternity Infirmary for only 6 weeks of the year, I think it could be relocated/rebuilt to a different spot (maybe by the MF last overbanked turn?) and the current building could be re-purposed again to house a new double carousel or removed to make way for a flat like you suggest or a playground area. I've noticed this also in the past that there isn't much for little ones to do while waiting for another parent to get off Maverick or the former Mean Streak. Good point.
