Frontier Fling Closing?

I think you're all underestimating just how much it takes to move that ride to a new location. They didn't disassemble the ride, repaint and overhaul it, then reassemble it for just one season plain and simple. Frontier Fling is there for a while.

They could have discovered a large issue with the ride, and they have to either pay to fix it, or scrap it. I don't think CP wants to pour money into FF if they only want it for a few more years.

There's a new innovation that was just announced for the SkyCoaster - that allows you to ride in a seated position, rather than laying on your stomach. I'm sure that will be added, and drum up some new business.

I doubt they painted it and relocated it just to scrap it a year later. I know it probably only cost a few thousand to do that, but it seems unlikely they would get rid of it that soon. If it was going to be going for the 2019 season, I could see that possibility. As much as I would like to see the space put to better use, I doubt it will go so soon.

I bet there is $75,000.00 to $100,000.00 to move the structure. Just a few costs could be dismantle, paint, site survey with engineering approval, site prep with footers, construction and signage. A lot more than just unbolting and reassembling a few hundred yards away.

Just because they can make it back doesn't make it a wise capital expenditure. I work for a multi-billion dollar financial services company and I can assure you if somebody loses $100,000 on something they better have a damn good explanation, regardless of being able to make that money back in one day.

Honest question. Where in the park could CP have placed Frontier Fling that could have been worse than the location that they put it in? For the life of me I cannot understand why they would put it on the site of Shoot the Rapids.

For the sake of comparison, Sling Shot (A similar up-charge attraction) is successful not because of its lighting package, and not because of its size. Sling shot is popular because is located in an area where crowds are very dense and where they bottle up due to being in an area where;

• it is next to the interchange between two themed areas
• it is next to a major/Iconic ride (Gemini)
• it creates a spectacle
• the train literally stops guests in a spot where the only visual attraction is Sling Shot

Frontier Fling indisputably does none of these things. It is located on an obscure site (for the GP that is) in the least densely populated area of the park. The idea that it would succeed in this area laughable considering that the people who made this decision make said decisions for a company that generates revenue in excess of one billion dollars.

I say let GCI exorcise that land with 4000ft of wood track and move on.

Because the land was available and instead of letting it sit empty, and instead of throwing out a perfectly good ride, they decided to combine both and make a little money. For the life of me I cannot understand why there is so much displeasure for this relocation.

It is located on one of very few sites in the park that could accommodate a ride of that size. Making a location comparison to Sling Shot isn't a good one since Sling Shot takes up very little space vs. a Skycoaster. The park is limited on building sites that are open and just sitting unused.

If placing Frontier Fling where it currently stands was such a hit 99er then why would they reverse their stance one year later? You want to prove me wrong? Again, simply find a less obscure spot to place the ride other than millennium island. They tried something out and it failed so its time to move on. Get off your knees.

Oh they reversed their stance? I guess I missed the press release about its removal while I was down here on my knees. Why don't you go ahead and point me in the direction of this statement about its removal.

If Frontier Fling is leaving, it was probably the plan all along. Uninstalling Frontier Fling may be early site prep for project 2019.

They could have moved it as a ploy to get us to think we aren't getting a GCI. I doubt that's what it is, but who knows. CP really loves screwing with out minds.

What official, reliable information do you have that even suggests CP is building a GCI coaster? There is none. And, do you really think they would spend the money and effort to move a ride to screw with fan boys on a internet forum?

The better question is where "in" the park could they have put it, other than its current location. As 99er said, that ride needs a lot of space, which isn't readily available within the gates of the main park. I'd rather see that ride there than the remnants of a former log flume ride that's no longer in operation. Looking at you, SFMM...

If management really had a reason to keep the ride, perhaps contractual obligation, they could’ve put it at sports force Park where it would be a better fit. But if they saw fit to put it where they did then they probably felt it was better there than its old location. To me it just seems odd for the location.

That doesn't make sense. Management obviously had a reason to keep the ride (because they kept the ride), and they chose StR's site which indicates that site was a better fit than SFP.

I don't think it will close yet. If it does, though, I am glad my family and I went on it this year (for the first time too). Skyscraper was always our ride of choice in Challenge Park because it was a lot cheaper than Ripcord and flipping around seemed a lot more exciting than a drop and swing. I love Ripcord, but I wish they had saved Skyscraper instead...
