So in this video: https://twitter.com/cedarpoint/status/928714554347081728
If you pause on the newspaper at the beginning, there is an article that says "Prof. Delbert's Estate and Workshop Plundered!" Could this mean that we could be seeing the closure of the ride?
RMC streak or bust!
I don't know, maybe give it more time unless they have other plans for that site. I was at CP 57 visits and rarely saw it being used by visitors. I said rarely, not never as I recall on one Halloweekends visit there were several customers. But usually throughout the year there was the ride operators standing by the RR crossing gates waving at train riders.
I did notice the last two weekends of October that they had removed the Professor pedaling the bike with wings. Maybe they just put it in storage early. That guy always reminds me of one of my favorite cartoons; Wacky Racers with Professor Pat Pending.
It's a terribly small sample size but I never saw it in use once in the 9 days I walked past it this season. On our last trip my wife even commented that she hadn't seen anyone on it, whereas we saw Slingshot in use (we rode it ourselves this year for the first time) pretty much every time we went past Gemini.
I wouldn't be surprised for the Fling to be gone, either now or soon. That's prime real estate for new attractions in the future. I know there's always the GCI rumor or a replacement log ride. Whatever the case, I can't say I'd miss it. Last time we did Rip Cord was 2011 I think.
CP Coaster Top 10: 1. Steel Vengeance (40 rides to date) 2. Top Thrill Dragster (191 launches to date, 4 rollbacks) 3. Magnum XL 200 4. Millennium Force 5. Maverick 6. Raptor 7. GateKeeper 8. Valravn 9. Rougarou 10. Gemini
1 time, I recall seeing them prep people to ride it during the 21 times I went to the park.
Sacrificing playing video games to ride roller coasters.
I'm honestly surprised that CP hasn't gone the route of Kings Island and offered heavy discounts on riding it at this point. The ride is extremely dated, and as others have pointed out, "appears" to have very low ridership. Even when it was in Challenge Park, the cost of riding was between $25 and $30 per person, depending on number of riders. And that was when Skyscraper was next to it, which was $5/person if you used the platinum pass BOGO discount.
Kings Island offers major discounts in the mornings. I don't know the number off the top of my head, but I believe you can fly for either $5 or $10/person, and they seem to get very good ridership on their model. Maybe the numbers make sense in its current state. But from my (and seemingly others') perspective, it seems like they could increase their revenue with some price promotions.

Love the "Also in this issue" bit on the newspaper about the escaped Emu. :P

With the old Shoot The Rapids station still standing and the minimal modifications to the area, I think it makes sense to think that Frontier Fling is temporary and the area and station will be reused for a new water ride. Possibly even remove Snake River Falls and add that area to the footprint of a new water ride. With three major coaster projects in the last four or five years, CP is ready for something other than a coaster and a new, well designed water ride would be awesome.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
We know how they tend to drop cryptic hints here and there. Unfortunately I can't get the newspaper in that Twitter video into focus very clearly to make out the "Also in this Issue" headlines. Maybe someone else can make them out and share.
Besides the emu headline I think it has a statement about a Mammoth bone and one about moonshine. This obviously means they will have a stand where one can drink moonshine from mammoth bone cups.
Maybe a mammoth skeleton in Din Alive. Or a mammoth water ride.
I also wondered why they didn't do more removal of STR trenches.
In my opinion, the “perfect” situation would be to remove frontier fling and snake river and add a Mack Power Splash (Pulsar at Walibi Beldum) and a GCI woodie similar to either Wodan at Europa or Mystic Timbers.
CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium
Well if Prof. Delbert was put away, it’s either for winter maintenance, or frontier fling is closing for good. At WCO this past February, the had Prof. Delbert out in front of the ride and that was the end of February; when normally the skeletons from boneville are put away for winter at planning & design. I am hoping for frontier fling & snake river falls removal, and the addition of water ride (similar) to white water landing and a GCI (similar) to Gold Striker or Mystic Timbers.

Who could have seen this coming? ;
I doubt they painted it and relocated it just to scrap it a year later. I know it probably only cost a few thousand to do that, but it seems unlikely they would get rid of it that soon. If it was going to be going for the 2019 season, I could see that possibility. As much as I would like to see the space put to better use, I doubt it will go so soon.

No since I’m keeping it open if the ridership isn’t covering payroll for staffing.
Board it back up and keep it that way until another use comes along.
