Front Gate Statement: Twin Towers

Detroit Basketball's avatar

I showed a friend of mine the video of Gatekeeper. When he saw the Front Gate Statement keyholes, he made reference to it reminding him of September 11th and the Twin Towers being hit. I laughed at first and thought he was crazy. He told me he was living in NY at the time of the attack and it really did bother him when he first saw the Gatekeeper keyhole feature.

Extreme? Or do you think other's might make the connection?

Never once did I think that. I cant speak to people living in the area at the time though because living through an event like that might make any little resemblence bring back memories. I would classify this as little.

I think if it truly bothered him, he should seek out therapy. Not being snarky. If, eleven years later, an entrance gate at an amusement park that only very vaguely resembles the WTC still bothers him, he's probably got some serious PTSD issues he needs to get cleared up.

I think the resemblance is miniscule, at best. Symmetry in architecture has existed for a long time.

Honestly, I still don't see what the problem could be. I'm not trying to be snarky either.

Presumably, two matching vertical structures that are side-by-side, combined with the fact that a "flying" (in theme) coaster train is traveling through them.

It's amazing how people can invent ways to be bothered. In no way does this remind me of the twin towers in NY. And if it did, I'd think of it in a positive light, not a negative one. My biggest concern with the towers (and I may be ridiculously inventing something here) is idiot riders trying to leave a mark (of any kind) on the tower walls as they are passing through.

It'll turn into the bubble gum wall in Raptor's queue, or the old bubble gum tree at the top of Mantis' stairs.

^Check out this link, now this I can understand why someone would think it looked like 9/11 because it does. But not Gatekeeper

This isn't being built by Intamin. There's not chance of the riders being able to touch the walls on their way through.

I would hope not. I was referring to hurling objects at it for whatever reason. Could be a safety issue for other riders or people below. I hope it's a ridiculous notion.

That "cloud" in between those buildings look like smoke....That is a very creepy design.

Maybe we should outlaw the number 11. Not only does it remind us of September 11th but the number looks like the twin towers.

Jesus, people really need to move on with their lives if their most pressing issue is something that looks nothing like an event that happened 11 years ago now.

Are we going to call this the World Trade Center element instead of a keyhole element now?

To answer your question, Detroit, it's very extreme. And DJ's correct; someone needs some therapy. I'm trying to answer as politely as possible. :)

Promoter of fog.

I don't get the commotion. The keyhole structures look nothing like Isengard and Barad-dur...

Ok. that was a mean post, dj daemon. If his friend lived in NY at the time, and saw the towers get hit, it's not funny and he does not need therapy. What would a therapist tell him anyway? People said about 9/11 to "never forget". So if the ride reminds him of it, then it does. For people who have not thought of that yet, (basically people who have not read this thread yet), then that's ok too. Respect what others think.

I still think the ride will be great and it is a cool element. The entrance needs spiced up, it will look modern and unique. Look at kings island's entrance, it's stuck in the 80's. :)

You big bully, DJ. No one said it was funny at all.

I don't think DJ was trying to be funny by saying that the friend might need therapy. I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but there are plenty of articles about those seeking a professional to talk to after 9/11. There's nothing to be ashamed of by admitting someone was mentally harmed by the images and video of that day and if this person is truly seeing the World Trade Center towers in the video, perhaps they would truly benefit from talking to someone.

I personally don't see it, and not sure how someone would.
