We haven't been to CP for 2 years, but I was pleasantly surprised by many things based on what I've read in the forums lately. First, affordable food can be found at CP, you just have to look for it. The best buy of the day was the 5.95 meal deal that included a hot dog, chips and a drink. Also, I'd probably pay $10.00 for a genuine CP elephant ear. No one makes them as good as here. Second, Magnum is still one of the best rides in the park, hands down! Third, Tomo, the Hibachi/Sushi place in the Breakers was VERY popular and also had great food. It looks like this is a hit. Fourth, it appears they keep the souveniours fresh every year. We picked up several different items I didn't expect them to have, like a real horseshoe with "Maverick--Cedar Point" stamped on it for the kids. Fifth...Midway Carousel has music again! Sixth...the waterbombs were working on Maverick unlike what I've been reading on here. Seventh, Shoot the Rapids fits in nicely like it's always been there. It appears popular, but we didn't want to get wet, so we passed. Eighth, Gemini was racing well all day. The winner of the trip was Maverick. This ride was the star of the day. This is definately a great coaster, and now I have the Statix model to prove it!
On the down side, I was surprised to see Blue Streak down for quite a while in the afternoon along with Cedar Downs. (two rides we try never to miss on our trip) Also, the Chippery was not as cool as I was expecting. They didn't have the flavor of the day, so we just got the sea salt flavor and they were WAY too salty. They need more flavors to choose from too like the Popcorn Factory in Mackinaw City or in Frankenmuth.
Other than those minor things, it was a great day and I wish we could have checked out the Starlight Experience, but we left before it got dark.
Oh, I also forgot to mention that it was nice to see the White Water Landing model still in the Town Hall Museum. I was worried it would be removed after the ride was removed. Thanks for preserving a piece of history CP!
The Chippery usually has 4-5 flavors. I went in there Friday too and it was somewhat stripped down. I asked for the flavor of the day, Ketchup as the sign said and I was told all they had was the plain (sea salt). They only had large bags, small wasn't available. The usual racks of prepackaged chips were gone. It looked like they were going to discontinue the chips. I'll have to check back on my next trip.
You did not miss out on the Starlight Experience. It was more like the Burntoutlight Experience. I would say that at least 25% - 30% of the lights were not working. I saw it last year when it was new and really enjoyed it, but this year was a real disappointment.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
OMG! Lights that work only partially at CP? It still amazes me that CP is satisfied with their rides looking like something from a county fair carnival after dark. I don't have many complaints about CP, but this is one of my big ones.
