A long time ago those ponds where part of the Lagoon system. Now they are just ponds for the carp and they don't interact with the bay or the lake. I asked one of the CP guys with a tie on, if they were putting pond dye into the water and he said yes it was. He would not elaborate on why though....
Please remain seated until the ride comes to a complete AND final stop.....
It's a radioactive chemical dye that makes the fish mutate into fish-men. Cedar Point is breeding its army for total domination of all rival amusement parks. Take that, Six Flags!

There were turkeys way back when but I think some aggressive employees with shotguns probably took care of them. In the early 90s there were also a couple of fox (foxes?) that roamed around Camper Village and would be seen once in a while.

The turkeys used to be there, but they started drinking out of a pond that used a bad batch of the radioactive dye. They soon turned into humans with brains the size of that of a turkey, and currently operate Six Flags parks across the country.

I love throwing some food in the water and watching them roll all over eachother trying to get it, much less race the ducks to get it.
The ponds wouldn't be so dirty if people stop throwing food in the water.

I was talking with a pool specialist in line for Maverick and she said that the water is most certainly dyed that color.
My guess is that it is dyed so that you can not see far in the water. They don't want you to see far in the water because the water is littered with trash.
So if all you can see is a nice green, it looks better then "clear trashy water".
Does anyone else support this idea? Or does anyone have any other ideas?
Im just surprised how many people don't use all the trash bins.
Maverick's lagoon by the queue is cleaned every night. I'll never understand why some people can't use the trash bins.

The small schools of fish in the water by the Maverick are baby catfish.
Thats a nice change from carp.
To bad Koi are so expensive. Its a species of carp so they may do pretty well. and the look a lot better.
"Ive got the need, the need for speed!"
People don't use the trash bins because they think they are cool and too lazy to throw away their stuff.
Gomez, don't they sell food to feed the fish? Or am I thinking of food for the ducks on the Frontier Trail? And those fish by Maverick, they don't grow too quick. I was there in early July and they were tiny and when I was there in early August they weren't much bigger. Maverick is so nicely themed, but the lagoon area by the queue is really aweful looking, especially the area where you leave the cement queue and head up the wooden ramp to the queue house. Everything in that one corner is over grown and full of trash.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Yes, there is fish food available.
I was unaware there was anything but Carp in the ponds. Can anyone else back it up besides the guy with 1 post?
Goodbye MrScott

We saw a catfish last Monday while waiting for Iron Dragon.
The so called dye is probably copper sulfate to keep the algae down. Not harmful, toxic, radioactive, etc.
Oh, and the ponds aren't dirty, they are way too much alive. What seems to some as dirty stagnant waters are really waters teaming with life, literally.
The carp population died down from Dragster's oil leakage of the oil/water heat exchanger. The system is there to cool the oil. Apparently the centrifugal pump threw a blade which pierced the heat exchanger allowing oil to leak into the lagoon. As a side note, I'm glad that I wasn't one of those who had to clean up the dead fish.
they are a little ugly. the only thing irritating is people spitting on them on purpous. :(

The turkeys were eradicated after they became to numerous, and in some cases, too aggressive. So one year they were there, the next year, they were gone, and all of the employees had great Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. :)

Yes, the fish are cool to watch, esp. in a long line for a ride. It sure beats people-watching in my opinion when in line.
I often joke about how in May I can bird watch and ride coasters at the same time. Not nearly as many spring migrants as I see at Crane Creek SP, but it's amazing how many utilize even busy Cedar Point on the trek north. Have you seen the Black Crowned Night Heron near ID? I've seen a male in the same cluster of trees this past two summers and the female near Mantis. Pretty cool I think! Look for a rather large bird (about the size of a chicken, but streamlined) in the branches overhanging the canal near the ID steps. He was in the same tree each time spotted.
