First Week of June (Boo!)

I am starting this new thread in hopes that CP will listen, and maybe it will get more attention. Pete noted in one thread that during the first week of June, CP is only open till 8 PM on Weekdays. From as far back as I can remember, ones June rolls around, the earliest CP closes is 10. Also Friday The First has been raped while Friday, May 25 still gets the 10 PM close

If CP wants to anger their employees and Guest in a cheep way, this is a most effective way to do it. I personally think that those last 2 hours are the best time to ride. Is cutting 10 hours off payroll really going to kill their profits? I am willing to bet that less people are going to show on those days now. If I were not a Season Pass Holder, there is now way I am going those days to get docked of my 2 precious hours. Why discourage people from going to the park. That's like 8 rides on Magnum late at night we will be missing.

Basically, I don't get Why CP decides to change it now what they have been doing right for several years.

It has to do with the fact that kids are still in college (some colleges) during parts of June, so they are understaffed. Once they are fully staffed, the hours are extended.

But kids have been in college during parts of June for years. Matter of fact, most schools are now on semesters so the end of the season would be a problem, not the beginning. I think there is more behind it than just staffing.
Also, Its been that way for years now and there is no reason to change CP's hours. Almost all Colleges are on Semester anyway, except for ones like OSU and OU. I seem too recall people saying they are short staffed in the end of the year, not the beginning. Telling people to work 1 hour more during their shift on days were they worked one more hour the same time last year should not be a problem. Like some pope say, If it ain't, broke, don't fix it. CP just broke something that was not needed to be fixed.

I am sure CP has "looked" at the dates you questioned and have decided the hours based on PAST history of crowd levels.
Friday May 25 is my birthday and I am sure that is why CP is open till 10 p.m. ...(side note: All GTTPer's with a season pass please join me on the midway that day). Just because this also is the FRIDAY of Memorial Day weekend, I doubt that influenced CP's decision.
We must remember CP is a business. I don't know the exact number but I am sure the AVERAGE guest spends between 6-8 hours in the park. Yes this is a number which is hard for us FANS to comprehend but it is close to accurate. With that number in mind and the HEAVY concentration of school groups...most which leave CP by 8 p.m. I am sure this is a good decision. True, marathon night riding on Magnum or insert coaster name here will be limited at this time of year but there are other operating days.
At one time...(when I was seasonal..it was not that long ago:)) CP was opened till 10p.m. every operating day of the season start to finish...(Bonus Weekends where the only time changes).
There were a few days the first week of the season when we had ZERO riders on Shoot The Rapids after 8p.m.
Isn’t Coastermainia usually the first Friday in June? If so, is it on the first this year? I haven’t seen anything on this yet.

Yes, it's usually the first Friday in June. It will be interesting to see if they continue that trend seeing is how that not only would it be the first Friday in June, it would also be the first day of June.

Also, a word about CP being under-staffed. I find it pretty hard to believe that CP couldn't get enough people to man the place even if all the college kids bailed out on them. They're not the only ones needing jobs.
That wouldn't really be cool at all if they would cheat us fanatics out of 2 hours...although it sure would be nice of them to keep Magnum and Mantis open 4 extra hours. :)

In this case, I believe that they will have Coastermaniaon the 2nd Friday in June--so we won't have to worry.

If this is the case, it could be VERY cool for me. It would mean 2 consecutive trips to CP on a Friday! (school and Coastermania--Woo Hoo!)
Nope, Friday the 1st is Coastermania so ride times might be earlier than 11:00PM this year.AHHHHH Magnum at dusk.
What I can't understand is why, when they want to run a shortened schedule in the early season, they run 9am-8pm. Wouldn't it make more sense to operate 11am-10pm instead?

It would make a hell of a lot more sense, and probably please many more people than they do now. They might even see an increase in attendance as more people would find it worthwhile to come out after work.
I sure like night rides, and will not get too many till July then it looks like, well at the point that is,wonder if any other parks will have evening hours in Ohio??

One more note is that last year they were open till 10 on all Fridays in May (let alone June) and during the last week of May they were open till 10. So its about a 2 week increae.

I would understand if the park was totally empty after 8 on those days, and I know they were the last week of may (especially in the back). I was their the sixth of June last year (Tuesday) and by no means was the park empty at this time. We did a lot of running around, hitting Magnum, Mantis, Power Tower and Raptor in the last hour and a half.

The line for the Force was still a good 1 1/2 hours wile Mantis, Power Tower, Magnum, and Raptor still had 20-30 minute waits respectively. Thats is still alot of people who want to enjoy the park.

But is enough to justify paying all the people who are working there?

Those lines, with the exception of Raptor are still as long, maybe even longer than around 10 AM. I like Ridemans suggestion. My typical day at the park starts with Walk On's of Power Tower, Corkscrew, Magnum. Gemini, And then Maybe Mean Streak. Although I would miss that, Night riding is much better AND would attract more people to the park.

After 8 on any day, CP probably starts loosing money because food and drink sales are not as high and most importantly, people stop going through the turnstile at the front gate. Does this warrant closing the park at 8 every day?

They probably want to see if closing the park early will continue to draw as many people. If it does, then they save a little dough. Paying all those people those low wages an extra 2 hours would not hurt one of the most profitable parks in the country. They sure made money last year when keeping the park open an extra 2 hours, so why change a good thing.

I made reservations at the Breakers today for Coastermania (which I thought would be on the 8th, even though it has always been on the first Fri.), and the lady at reservations checked on the date for me. She said that "they" told her that the date hadn't been set yet, but would probably be the 1st. Anyone who has more info, please let me know.
Joe E I can tell you that will not stick. Two years ago when Power Tower opened they were to close at 8:00pm, they closed at 10 or 11.
So as a friend I am telling you not to freak out about it just yet but good topic.
