First Trip

First trip to cedar point - high anticipated by my 14yr old daughter and I - planned to stay as long as necessary to soak it in.....

Maybe our expectations too high - but we expected more than kings dominion or carowinds - but if you take out Maverick and Millienum Force, you pretty much have kings dominion at twice the size with a nice water view from the top of the coasters.

Drove up on monday from North Carolina - stopped about 30 mins short of Sandusky and stayed at the Holiday Inn in Elyria ($61) - a fair but uninspiring hotel that turned into an awesome deal when compared to our next nights stay (later in post)

Platinum Pass purchased specially for this trip (again planned to stay many days) - we will hopefully get in a few summer trips to kings dominion and carowinds - maybe a trip that can incorporate one of their other parks to justify the cost since this trip only turned out to be two days instead of the multiple day trip we planned.

Woke up early Tuesday morning and had the perfect day for the park - forecast of rain kept the big crowds away but just remained overcast so little )less than fifteen minutes for most of the rides - with the exception of Maverick (30-45 mins) and MF (15-45mins) - top speed dragster down most of the day.

Rode every ride in the park (minus Camp Snoopy of course) and they broke down into three groups
1) darn good coasters - MF and Maverick
2) decent rides (but you can find them elsewhere (MaxAir, Wicked Twister, Skyhawk, Raptar)
3) everything else was completely uninspiring, (and CP knew it because the tagline from all the announcers during the loading was - "just remember this was the highest/fastest coaster in 19XX (insert year)

We decided to take advantage of the (relatively) sparse crowd and stay into closing - called and got a seemingly great rate ($166 including tax) at Breakers - decided to check in around 6pm and go back to the park to close it down.

I know there are those who will say 'you should have asked for 'x' spot - but didn't care to have primo just an above average room . Got the Bon Air section (I know) - I know there is an old section (and with the walk to get my $4 soft drink and $4 water from the snack shop) read on the way it was built in 1926. But this is what I did expect for my $166 dollars
1) the advertized Wireless WiFi to be in MY ROOM - not in the center 'in the round atrium' huddled with 100 others trying to get onto a network that was supposed to be there, but no one seemingly could find)
2) the sheets on my double beds to actually be double sheets and not queen sheets. A fitted sheet would have been nice too instead of flat sheets which ended up in a ball during the course of the night
3)The mattress to not have a noticable sag from broken springs
4)Since the room faced the lake, an actual view would have been nice, but since the air was courtesy of a noisy window unit that took up half the window took care of not having that.
5) The chests (once) had a whitewash finish - long since worn off and the ceiling tiles that I last saw in my elementary school 45 years ago, were (once) white. As I looked up from my sagging bed, I wondered how many leaks were needed to create the multitude of yellow stains and the wonderful sagging some of the tiles exhibited.
6) Upon putting the suitcase in the closet (was NOT ABOUT to use those chests to put my clean clothes in), wondered to myself, if any stray animal (or maybe asbestes fibers) would be able to come in through the HUGE gaping hole in the celing of the closet
7)The bath's early 30's gold swirl bathboard had long since been discontinued, because to repair some prior pluming problems two squares we had been cut out and replaced with one light beige and one dark brown section in a poor attempt to match instead of actually replacing (gasp) the remainder in the bath which would have needed about two more panels. Looking closer at the gold swirls, I realized the pattern on a section of it was actually created by the little stickers (large, medium, etc) that are on new clothing. I then peeled off about 10 of these stickers off the bathroom wall. Being able to play 'dueling flushes' with the neighboring room was the one high spot.

Daughter wasn't too fazed by it and she wanted to get back to the park, so I took in a cleansing breath and let it go - it was then I decided it was just going to be one more night.

Closed down the park- rode Maverick and MF again for a nightitme effect, many of the food stands throughout the park were closed during the day and night, and the choices were limited. Retired to the room and fortunately was so tired it did not take long to go to sleep.

Woke up in the am to get to the park to ride Maverick a couple of times, then back to the Breakers for breakfast at Perkins and to check out of room. Rode the water rides, a couple of the taller slides at soak city and by this time the park was pretty crowded (much more crowded than monday because it was bright and sunny) and the lines were longer. we walked around the park and NONE of the rides were appealing enough for the waits involved (an hour for Maverick and MF - top speed dragster still down) and 15-45 mins for all others. So we decided to leave even earlier than expected (5ish) - drove halfway back home and stayed at a microtel inn in beckley that was twice as nice as breakers at 1/4 the cost with high speed internet IN YOUR ROOM.

Don't get me wrong, I'd go to Cedar point again - IF I was driving though, and IF I knew the crowds were minimal - otherwise I get the same buzz from kings dominion.

^ Your expectations are to high in my opinion for the exception of your Breakers Stay.

Pepsi Refresh is saving one coaster at a time: http://pep.si/bTTsfc

Wow... I've stayed at Breakers Express a few times and it seems like it's much better (and cheaper) then Breakers.

Also, did you ever get a chance to ride Top Thrill Dragster? If you didn't, you should serioiusly consider returning to the park next year...

Here is a tip for you, if you do stay in the old part of breakers again and the hotel is dead.... ask for a room upgrade upon check in...have yet to be turned down! you can still try if they are busy, but chances are slim, but worth a shot!
