First Rider Benefit

I agree there's nothing wrong with hoping the event is as good as GK Media Day.

But I think the way you said that you would react if it wasn't sounded threatening and confrontational, and yeah, it kind of implied "social media hissyfit"... if you really have something to tell CP about the event - and honestly, I can't imagine that there would be anything so terrible that would be worth writing about, considering past first rider benefits at CF parks seemed to get good feedback - politely contact them them (not publicly on a social media page) and don't be demanding. I'm sure that's much more likely to get a positive response than ranting on social media or worse, in real life (which allegedly contributed the death of the HalloWeekends preview event a few years back.)

Either way, what they are doing for passholders, enthusiasts, and other previewers this year is a quantum leap over what I recall being done with Valravn, so I'm rather happy that things are moving in the right direction very quickly.

And by "right direction" I assume you mean "They owe us nothing, they don't have to do anything for us but open the gate at 10am on Opening Day, but they are graciously providing multiple events that will allow us to ride Steel Vengeance almost a week before Opening Day. The park really doesn't have to do that at all and it's really cool that they are! Thank you so much! "

Sigh. The good news is, having gone to Valravn's First Rider event, I thought that was significantly better than GK's media day. There was an amazing spread of food, we got a lot of rides, and there were red carpet photos and a nice presentation as well. But the evil part of me hopes that it rains that day, and coast has to ask for a refund to his charity donation. Because assuredly that makes sense to him.

Where have you been? We're way past dealing with the bitching and moaning about media day. Complaining about charity events is where it's at now.

The sad thing here is that while coast is very much a troll, his views towards certain things represents what is a very real problem in the enthusiast community now a days.

Let's get used to that fact and stop using a troll as some indication of a community. If anything the backlash indicates that a vast majority of enthusiasts are normal and decent people.

We may be the vast majority of normal, sane individuals... however the squeakiest wheel gets the most attention.
And that is what is affects the enthusiast community and the country as a whole for the worse.

Seeing what Coast said made my head hurt. If somehow the park finds out who you are and bars you from the event while keeping your money, I would feel no sympathy for you. You made a donation with the added bonus of riding a new coaster. You could've easily donated that amount directly and got nothing in return, except a tax deduction. Looking back at his posts, he's the one who caused all that drama with the marriage contest, all he had to do was wait a while and the laws changed so now what he wanted is legal. If he causes any **** this time, he will certainly be persona non grata with the park, if he isn't already.

I remember somebody saying "I don't think anybody is actively discouraging parks to do these events" when I brought up that some enthusiasts will enforce their morals by literally saying that parks shouldn't do these events.

And yet,

It's called Media Day. Are you part of the media? If not, you don't belong there, period. It's not called ERT Day. That day is known as Coastermania. And the park is offering a FREE preview event for passholders. That sounds to me like a good replacement for public media days (I don't know if they did first rider auctions back when they had those). And if you want to pay a premium and get more rides, you buy a ticket for the first rider auction.

I never said I think we have to be invited to Media Day. Just because I'd *like* that to happen again doesn't mean that I think the park is required to.

Gatekeeper media day was the best day I've ever had at cedar point to date. Yes, we can all agree that we would like for that to happen again. But, unfortunately, that was ruined. It will never happen again, and I'm ok with that.

Just because I disagree does not make me a troll. I’m happy to hear it should be a great event. I look forward to enjoying it!

I think someone needs to start a GK Media Day fan forum.

I think the park is doing a really good job so far with setting up media day. The contest is nice to have and allows those enthusiasts that are apart of the media to get a chance to do their work without the obnoxious enthusiasts. It’s making it so one bad apple doesn’t ruin the bunch. I’m very happy the park came up with this. By the way, I am NOT a part of the media.
