First memories of the Point

I hope I'm not rehashing anything, but what is your first memory of the Point?

For me I distinctly remember going on the Pirate Ride with my dad when I was around five - and being so damn entertained by the "exploding fountains" out front. San Francisco Earthquake was a big one also.

Sadly now, I'm mired in the tedium of Mantis, Magnum, et al. (*sic*) Anyone else?

Guide To The Point 1 is really good value...
Gemini did it for me too, but that is not my first memory of Cedar Point.

My first memories are a little jumbled because I've been going for so long, but here are a few that stick out.

Camper Village. I have been camping there all my life and love the place. I can still remember arriving at Cedar Point late at night, going over the causeway in the dark and0 looking at all of the lights and rides running before we checked in. To go along with this, I can still remember not being able to sleep the night before I went to the park.

Wild Cat. I remember riding it with my father and being scared half to death by the ride. I took a long time to warm up to roller coasters. As I said it before. Gemini is the ride that I went on and forever decided that I loved coasters.

Witches Wheel. I can remember going to the park the first year that ride was there. I was scared to ride it, but I got on because a friend my age with a family that we visited the park with went on. She was a girl and I couldn't be outdone. I loved the ride and remember thinking that you couldn't even tell you were going upside down. That year, there was also a tornado that hit the park while we were there. My parent's moter home was fine, but our friends had a pop up trailer that got tipped upside down. We were unable to return to the camp ground that night because of down power lines. Instead, the park gave us free room in the hotel breakers. That is the only time that I have stayed in the hotel.

I have many more memories from Cedar Point, but these are what I would consider my first memories.
When I came to work at CedarPoint, I think I was basically in shock...for the first days I was so disorientated I almost didn't know my right from my left, and soon came the loss of what day of the week it was! So my first memory was being in a state of shock, realizing that I was really here!
I couldn't tell you guys my first memories....there so blurry and long ago.

1976, just before my third birthday. My mother was pregnant with my brother, and she was talking with her friend about Corkscrew, wondering if they would ride after they both had their babies. I remember riding the double wheel with my father, and looking over the back of the seat at my mum in the next gondola. I also remember the San Francisco Earthquake and Skyslide on that trip.

My first memories of the point go back to the mid 60's. I remember riding the sky ride with my mom and then walking over to the marina and looking at all the boats.
Drinking juice out of those plastic fruit-shaped bottles and feeding the ducks stick out in my mind.
When I got home once when I was 7 years old, for some unknown reason, I typed up a list of all the rides from the map and marked the ones that I rode. I still have that file lying around...
My favorite is that my family came to the park on my 8th birthday. I wanted to go to the indoor Bearnstein Bears, they said later, so I took off and went by myself, WOW NELLY, my dad was pissed! I also remember being to scared to go on the Gemini.

My first memory is thinking why did we have to drive across the country just to go to an amusement park. Also walking down the midway as a kid laughing at the people who were doing that Star Tracks thing (don't know what it was called back then)...even at a young age it made me laugh that these people were making complete fools out of themselves! I distinctly remember the Frontier Trail. I used to love going into the shops and stopping at the Red Garter with my family to watch the shows.

My first EMPLOYEE memory...wondering what I had gotten myself into. 1st day, never worked a job before in my life, being put on a register at Stockade at 12:00 on a Saturday. Being sent on break at 1 even though my shift didn't end until close. No one showing me what to do and millions of hungry guests all wanting that cheeseburger combo meal. I also then remember going home and crying that night saying that I would never go back to that place, even as a guest...well five years and many other memories later, I proudly label myself as a "lifer"!
Never really thought of it until now. I guess the first thing that I remember though was pulling up to the door of the Breakers and having someone come to the car to take your luggage in. That was something I'd never seen before.

I also remember that CP was the first place where I could go and ride all day without tickets. You had that string with the metal clamp on it that showed that you paid to ride everything, rather than just being in on General Admission.

Showing my age,

My earliest memories was when I was around 4 or 5 when my family, and another family packed up and vacationed to CP. I remember the first day, I fell and skinned my knee on the sidewalk over near Ocean Motion. That was about the only thing about that trip I remembered, because I carried on over my injury!

The next year was the first I was introduced to rollercoasters, with my first ride on the Cedar Creek Mine Ride. I also remember the Funhouse in great detail, I remember having a crush on the attendant that was at the part where you went down the slides to exit the Funhouse, I went through it over and over, just to see and talk to her! (5 year-old's do the strangest things!!)

Pictures remind me I was at The Point in 62. (I was 2). I really remember 1965 when we arrived in Sandusky before the park opened. At that time counties in Ohio could decide to observe daylight savings time, Cuyahoga was on DST Erie County was not. We lived less than one hour from the park so, when we left C-Town at 9a.m. we arrived in Sandusky at 8:45a.m. I still am amazed at the fact we could spend the whole day at CP when the Miday ended by the West end of the Sky Ride. Hey, DBCahill, remember trying to take off the metal clips and the strings on the way home, without breaking the string?
P.S. DBCahill is there such a thing as a good seat in Steeler's stadium? Go Browns (HA!)
I don’t remember my exact first memory of Cedar Point because my parents started taking my sister and me when we where pretty young. I do remember my first real coaster ride (not counting the Junior Gemini) was on the Mine Ride. I was scared to death (hey, I said I was just a kid!) and would not ride any other coasters for the rest of the day. I also remember by favorite ride being the Pirate Ride – I was real disappointed when they removed it a couple of years ago.
I also remember the first time on the Corkscrew. By this time I had gotten over my fear of coasters but still was a little scared of the loops. I was on a class trip and my ‘buddies’ made me ride by myself. But the ride operators stuck another guy in the seat next to me. He was probably about 15 or 16, and all through the ride he is telling me about the ‘facts of life’ – like how to treat your girl friend and why you should use a condom!
"remember trying to take off the metal clips and the strings on the way home, without breaking the string?"

We never tried to take ours off. That string and clip was the coolest thing to be wearing around the neighborhood. It was a badge of honor.

My first memory was in 1974 or 1975 and looking at the Giant Wheel thinking it was the tallest structure I would ever see in my life (hey I was 5 or 6). Little did I know what was to come in 1989 and 2000.

Remember going to the Po!nt in the early 70's-remember what a long drive it was-and can only really remember the earthquake ride and the Pirate ride. Went back in 1981 and HATED it--(sorry) was with a guy I couldnt stand-LONG drive there (that hasnt changed for me) I remember the Paddleboat Ride-Corkscrew-again the Earthquake ride-and Blue Streak. I remember how dirty the park appeared to be to me-whether it really was or not who knows. If I wasnt having a bad enough time-then that guy fell asleep on Rte 4 on the way home-I only remember his car ending up in a ditch and we had to be towed out-what an idiot.
SOOO glad I went back again!!!!

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight??
I remember getting up at 4:00 am. Driving for a very long time(I was asleep most of the time). Then it rained for the first 2 hours and we took shelter under the building by the Demon Drop. Then when it stopped raining we found out that I was too short to ride. I cried and cried and cried. Instead of riding that I went over to the arcades and played skeeball. I had no idea how fun roller coasters were until I rode the Iron Dragon(I was 5). When it was time to leave all of our shoes were soaked and our feet were all wrinkly. Well 2 years later I returned to conquer the Demon Drop and the Magnum as well.
"When it was time to leave all of our shoes were soaked and our feet were all wrinkly. "

I never go to CP without at least one pair of clean dry socks. I know, it sounds stupid, but changing out of those nasty wet socks after the water rides, or one of those famous North Coast summer downpours, and putting on clean dry socks is almost a religious experience.

Am I getting too old?
