I didn't get a chance to drive there my first summer with a liscense. Since it's almost a 3 hour drive where I live, It would be too hard driving back late at night, after a long day at CP as a first year driver.
By this summer I'll have had my liscense for a good year and a half by the time the 07 season rolls around. I'll be coming down to CP on Thursday, May 24th for senior skip day. Woot.

One other note.
Ohio has a new driving law for kids under 17 years of age. Only 1 non-family member is allowed in any vehicle with a driver with a license under the age 17. This starts in April this year (2007)
So before you load up all your friends to head to the point, read the law.
Michigan has had a similar law for a few years now. More states need it- most kids get into accidents while showing off for friends, or talking to friends in the car, etc.
As a side, I think the first time I drove down, I was 21. Before that, I always tagged along with other people. Just make sure you are comfortable driving the distance needed, and that you are familiar with the local road laws, and keep an eye on the speed limit. Last thing you want is a ticket to ruin the fun!
Even though I am great with directions, and can find a place again if I've found it once, I always print up directions from MapQuest for a "just in case", or if my completly directionless husband takes over the driving. He can't find much without a map and very carefully instructed directions. Hence, I -always- do the driving.
Looking forward to Cedar Point- July 4th-5th, 2007!

Well, it was my first time to CP and the skyline got me so excited that I ran the guy in the lane beside me almost off the causeway. Lets just say he wasn't happy. I didn't kill any geese though.

Does anyone know if this law applies in Michigan. I could have sworn it does. When I told my 17 cousin about this, she looked at me like I was Shania Twain at a 9-inch nails concert.
I'm too sexy for my harness!
If you can't drive down alone the first year you have your license, you are most definately not alone. I was allowed to do some of the driving, I never did it solo or with a friend until I was 25 (I am 27 now). Wow, I've been driving for 12 years now. Anyway, the laws exist for a reason and be patient, the right time will come and it will be great.
