"First Day" Stories

I'm sure all of the past employees/returners here vividly remember their very first day of work at Cedar Point. I'd love to hear everyone's "first day" stories...

My first day at CP wasn't terribly hectic or exciting, since I arrived in early April and it was just me and only four and five other people in my department.

Actually, I don't remember it that well at all...the only thing that stands out is that we were taking soap from these huge dispensers and transfering it into smaller containers. The soap would get everywhere. I had never done anything like that before, and it was an interesting experience, to say the least. (The first of many) ;-)

My first day in 2001 was pretty fun. I was the first Screamster at Cedar Point. Since Cedar Point had never done Screamsters before they said I was there ginny pig, that was really cool:)

There are 24 hours in a day, and 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?

I was afraid very afraid! Then a seagull pooped on me and I was mad very mad!! Then I went to Meijer and bought a bunch of suff and I was happy very happy! Then I came home and met my other roomates! Spiders! Big Scary Spiders! I was afraid very afraid!

HEHEHE. Which first day? In 98 I was in sheer terror. Believe it or not I was a very shy person. Gotta give Fike all the credit in the world though, he made me feel very welcome. Now they can't get rid of me. In 99, I remember going to leadership training and having Peggy tell me they thought I canceled my contract and being attacked by a certain skyride guy (but we won't go there). In 00.. oops I wasn't there never mind. :) In 01.....wow I dont' remember. And I know I was there. 02 was hilarious because standing in line in HR all I heard was "Where's Joey?" My reply "hell if I know hell if I care". ( oops guess i went there huh?) Then going over to Park Op and having Marcia meet me and my dad at the door telling me not to go in there cause my lovely ex-boyfriend was in there. Well i guess i could have gone back to HR and tell everyone where Joey was. In retrospect I love the first day its so exciting with the promise of a new season and the smell of.... wait there was no smell.

Processing into HR, I was told that my hair was too long by a blue tagger(who was obviously massively hungover). I asked him what part was too long and he told me that my sideburns were the culprit. So I politely asked for a pair of sicsors, went to the restroom, looked in the mirror and cut them. I returned to line, asked if my hair was ok;the blue tagger sort of grunted "yes", took my id picture and I returned the sissors and thanked the nice woman at HR and finished out my business. This lady helped me out later that summer when I lost my name tag and she gave me a replacement for free (with some girls name on it!) and I gave my $2.00 to her to make one with my real name to pick up that afternoon. There were alot of nice area managers who helped me on alot of occasions;like the time I lost my belt and the supervisor for the entire FT town shops made me a new one at the leather shop before the park opened! He said if I told anyone that he would haunt me till I died. I was appreciative to him the entire summer and when anyone in his area needed help I would pitch in.
June 2000 is when I first started out at cedar point. I was really scarred only cause I really diddn't know anyone out there. I remember getting a speading ticket that day comming in cause i was speading(funny stuff). The first week there was bad cause i felt lonely and no wanted to talk. Then after that there was a incident that happon with the train that i will keep secret (for reasons i cant say). Then i met heather over at Gold and we became best friends. Then it all just hitched and then by the end of the year...I had made the best of friends with alot of people. Now i am there for my 4th year lol...And i am still friends with alot of them... Thanks :)

MY CRAZY LIFE

My first day was pretty shocking. The people that rode up with me decided to give me the choice of going back with them or staying at the park not guaranteeing a ride home after the end of the summer.

They didn't want to live at Gold or Cedars and I decided to stay. They left and fortunately, met some friends that year and got home :)

From that point on I am happy to say, and 5 (possibly 6) seasons later, I knew I made a right choice.

:)

Then a seagull pooped on me and I was mad very mad!!

hehehe, funny. So one day, was sitting at turnstiles... felt a plop on my right shoulder... a bird got me! No big deal (tho it never happened in my life.) So went on break, changed my shirt at wardrobe.

Well... a couple hours later... I was spieling. Plop! Another bird got my right shoulder. (and the side of my face)

fun

magnum crew 2002

My first day (night) was interesting. 2002, 3 day train trip from Cali to Sandusky. Got in at around 5am Friday night. The town was dead, Luckily the cabby was awake. The guy at commons was iffy on letting me in but the ladies at the desk were very friendly and gave me a warm welcome. I remember entering an empty commons rings and hearing the phone constantly ring in the hallway. A 7am shower and sleep. Processed in on Sunday and everything was great from there.
Wow, you got hit twice in one day!? I thought I was doing bad with three times in three months! :) The most angry birds definitely are at Magnum. You should have seen it when there was a baby under our station and someone messed with it. About 50 of them were perched on the top of Gemini's turnaround and the damn things were dive bombing me out at transfers and someone else was beating them away with a broom! :) I wonder how much money is up on the roof of Magnum's station from all the change that gets thrown at them throughout each season.

Ahhhh, first days. 2000 seems like so long ago. Well fresh out of high school as I was this was a new experience for myself. My friend Jon had convinced me to apply for cedarpoint on the railroad, working on the engine, which sounded like a ton of fun. After processing in and reporting to the engine house I was told that they didn't need me and sent me over to work on the platform. I loved the crew, they were very warm and friendly and helped me get accustomed to the new environment. They also convinced me to visit "Louies" for the first time. ;) I really enjoyed working on the platform and transferred there permanantly. By the end of the season I was the ATL of that location and the rest is history.

You would be surprised at the number of people each summer who get to the park, check in, go to their dorm, and then leave.

I saw some parents in the past walk out without even discussing it with their kids. It really isn't that bad though.

Sam we had some great times in 2000 didn't we.

If only people realized how little time you actually spend in your room...whether you're working, out with friends, or whatever. It's not like college, where you are always confined to your room studying and doing homework. My room at CP (well, apartment) is a place to eat and sleep; if it's old/ancient but clean -- even if I'm the one to clean it first -- that's all I need. The fun occurs elsewhere.

OMG they drug test??? So much for the 4th amendment...oh well
Redbrigade, it seems as though you've worked at Cedar Point before. Did you never notice the question on your application that asks, "Are you willing to submit to drug testing?" (If you were joking, then please ignore this comment).
