First Day Move In..

What things do most people bring to rooms, I'm trying to think of whats going to far....ya know what I mean?

And what if your cars small and you need a friend or parent to help load stuff ..would they allow your friend to help in or not? do you actaully get time to move in?

Yourself and the other girl, Diana, sure are curious. Understandable that it is your first year, but you guys ask questions about everything. Most of your questions have already been answered in some shape or form on this board.
They will let family or friends help you move in. You'll have plenty of time to put your things in your room and then go to your dept. to check in. After that they sometimes let you go after watching video's and what not. Then you can go back to your room and unpack.

Everyone brings different things. If your staying in a dorm room a small fridge is nice to bring with you. Some rooms have a mirror if not there's always one in the bathrooms in the apt. and the dorms. Dishes are good to bring like a plate, cups and bowls. There are mircowaves provided in lobbys. Toasters are not aloud but some people do sneak them in.

Most of the summer time your usually in your work uniform and you wear normal clothes just in the off time which usually is on your day off or when you get off work. If you have any questions what to bring you can email at the addr. in the profile..

Make sure to bring a fan! A dorm fridge can be bought used from the newspaper for about 20$ and you wont feel bad leaving it if you cant take it home!

I saw a toaster oven for 15$ at Dollar General last night! Just be sure to sneak it in as a $15 toaster oven is a firehazard in a box, and I own a house! You can actually broil a very nice t-bone or filet in those little things and bake crispy fries for a really nice cheap meal. Just be extremely careful with that appliance as it is just plain unsafe; the outer surface gets very hot in those cheapies. I used one for 6 months in my graduate dorm at univerisity! I am sure that you can bake a squirrel or seagull as well! lol

Sorry if i seem really inquisitive dt_ant... I'm just nervous. I'll make sure to check previous forums from now on. Didn't mean to be annoying. -Diana

Diana (and anyone else who's new),

Don't be afraid to ask questions and don't feel like you're being annoying, because you definitely are not. Whenever I try something new, I get really excited about it and want to find out as much about it as I can; I completely understand where you're coming from as I've had the same experience. The more you know, the better prepared and more confident you will be when you first arrive at the Point.

I hope other veteran employees will take this into consideration when reading others' questions and posts; remember how you felt before your first days at the Point and what you might have been wondering, and what you were afraid of. Many new employees are just graduating from high school and are going to be living away from home for the first time in their lives; it's only natural that they should be asking questions and trying to figure everything out. Be proud that they trust your advice enough to ask.

There are 24 hours in a day, and 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?

I am new too and curious what to bring? So far all I have heard was about the "food supplies", what about the cloths, the pillow, blanket , that stuff. I am going to be 4 hours away from home, I dont really want to have to go back for something. If you understand what i am saying let me know, drop a reply on my post which is New Guy on Campus. Thanks.

Brad

Yes, you need to bring warm and summer clothes. It gets really cold in April, Sept, and Oct. Gloves and ear muffs come in handy. Housing offers sheets, 2 towels, and a blanket. Most people bring their own. You must provide your own pillow or pillows. I hope that helps..
