First Aid's Paramedics and Firefighters

I was wondering what people's thoughts were on the safety staff in the park.

Umm, what exactly do you want to know?

They save people's lives if/when needed.

Is the first aid staff nice? It amazed me how much stuff they actually do in the park. You would never think they would be busy. What all does first aid provide?

First Aid actually does a lot.

In my summer I had to visit them several times as I had horrible allergies. I would walk in, be made to bark like a dog (long story), get my allergy medicine and be on my way. They were fast, effecient and caring. Of course I was not a "gold bricker". They also supplied me with much needed aspirin and cough drops. Thanks to them I never missed work and they helped me keep my allergies at bay.

I know that they care for patrons with certain handicaps and conditions also.

They will be more than happy to keep a person's insulin in their refrigerator with your name on it so you can come back to use it when you need.

Ok I was just wondering because I had a headache one day and went in to try to get a work excuse and they treated me as if I was just another worthless employee. The guy in there talked down to me and told me to suck it up and get back to work. Has anyone else had any problems like this?

When I went to first aid they were pretty nice to me. I didn't have any problems and they were helpful to me.

You wanted to be excused from work because you had a headache?

Goodbye MrScott

First Aid in Soak City once did not quite win me over...this was the only first aid station I had visited. I cut my knee on the bottom of a pool, and there was blood running down my leg, it wouldn't stop bleeding...I went to the first aid station, and, first of all, the door was locked. I had to almost pound on the door before someone came over, and they were very short and seemed irritated with me. They asked what was wrong, I showed them my leg. Rather than help me clean it or anything, they gave me a bandaid, shut the door in my face, and locked it. Not the best experience ever. I'm not saying first aid there is bad; I just might have caught someone on a bad day or something.

Soakcitydude, Sorry but our job is not to write you a work excuse for a "headache". We all know it's the nature of the beast to not feel like working. You have to understand how frustrating it is for us to see the same complaint everyday from the employees. Most of the time we see the same people that we saw the night before at louis's. I am working with a hangover and so should you. These employees act like the world is coming to an end when they have a runny nose or a headache and expect to be sent home. Sorry but no other employer would put up with it and neither will we. I do however give sympathy to people who are truly sick. You wouldnt believe how many people call off sick and then we catch them playing in the park. BTW new employees, that can get you fired. Shimmy, it is our policy to keep the soak city door locked. That first aid station is not required to be manned. The purpose of the soak city medics is to "rove" the park. Sorry that you recieved poor care. :)However the door must remained locked while we are in there due to the fact that it is basically a small room and sometimes mothers breastfeed or we are performing a procedure that requires privacy. We dont need people barging in on that. If anyone has any other questions please feel free to ask :)

That's understandable, I figured it had to do with something they had to do...I just wasn't expecting to have the guy be cranky with me, haha. It definitely is a good policy for the reasons you gave, though.

Instead of complaining about the headache, just ask for some ibuprofen. First Aid hates goldbrickers with good reason.

I went to them all of the time for aspirin and allergy relief. They knew that I was at work, hungover, and in pain. They also knew that I was going back to work and not whining about my self induced pain.

Shimmy, I am sorry to hear about the unsatisfactory service you received. I am not sure of the circumstances with what happened to you. Rarely, and unfortunately I have had to do give a bandaid to a guest and been quick with it while working in Soak City because I just received a call on the radio for someone with a major medical problem, I need to get the equipment and get there quickly, or there is a major medical incident going on in the office and I can't really let anyone else in unless absolutely needed. If it wasn't me, then I am not sure of the circumstances of why you were treated that way. The door is locked and no one is in the office if both the safety personnel that are assigned to Soak City have to respond somewhere for medical emergencies, or a few other scenarios. Many guests end up going to the lifeguards first to ask for help and then the lifeguards radios for one of us to come to the guest. Even with this, we do try to keep at least one person in the office.

For all the employees, if you would like to know what we do in safety, come and ask us. Most of us are very nice and willing to explain it and talk as long as were not busy and your not supposed to be working at the moment.

P.S. what is a goldbricker? I have never heard the term before.

^ I had no idea what a goldbricker was so I looked it up on urbandictionary.com. It says a gold bricker is

"Someone who cheats at completing a task, duty, or job. "

Just what I want to hear from a medic that will be taking care of me.

I could not think of a better term...

I have to say, I was feeling very light headed and ended up passing out by the one guard station one day. The nurse was very nice and let me rest and i was even asked if I wanted a slip so I didnt have to work the next day but I told her no,
They are very friendly..Everyone has a bad day.

I guess first aid gets tired of whining employees...

Slightly off topic. I am a volunteer fireman and like to get different department T-shirts. I wondered how I could go about getting one from Cedar Point.

Um, call them.
