Filming Day - 05/14/2003

Well, even with Top Thrill Dragster being closed most of the day, I had a pretty grand time. Anyone who doesn't think you can have a good time at the park alone is mistaken. I ran into people I knew in high school, people off this message board (Dan), and just generally met quite a few people in lines.

Started the day off leaving Lansing around 5:45 in the morning!! early! Took the first picture of the new sign out the window while waiting for the light to change... Nice new Cedar Point sign there on the causeway! :) Once I got into the parking lot, I got waived right, but I put my left blinker on and insisted on going to the left, and the parking attendant finally waved me to the left... I drove around back and parked in the soak city lot in row 2. Can't beat that. I went and got in line for the park, in the special season pass line :) I arrived about 9 am to the gate, and was probably 5th or 6th in line in the season pass line. WHen the gates opened at 9:30 I got right in and ran to Top Thrill Dragster, only to find it was closed. Too bad... I would have probably made first ride of the day!

I ran to Millennium Force instead and made it on there first train of the day.. then I got off and got back into line. At that point they were only running yellow train so it was about a 15 minute wait while they got red and blue upa nd running. Got a second ride, and went off to enjoy the park, taking pictures. Cedar Creek Mine Ride wasn't open so I rode Mean Streak twice, then Gemini, then I went to the car to drop off my coat and sweatshirt. Went to ride Magnum, but the line was long, and it was having problems, so I rode Corkscrew, then went and rode Wicked Twister. Back seat rules!

After Wicked Twister I rode Disaster Transport.. Dunno why, I just had some desire to ride it all winter, so I did. It would be so much better if it was longer than it is.

After that, I rode Demon Drop, and went to ride the Raptor, but it was a 45 minute wait. I rode the Blue Streak, then the Wildcat.

I went back and rode the Magnum. I originally wanted to ride Power Tower, but the lines were really long. I was second in line for the last seat in the first car, and the ride op let us know they weren't going to have anyone in the next train.. then the next one.. then the next one.. finally they took the red train off. During all of this, they asked the crowd if anyone knew how many times Dan had ridden the Magnum.. I said 2400 cause I couldn't exactly remember his exact count. It would have been funny if I knew the exact count, though :)

Mantis was a 45-60 minute wait. I didn't ride it. I got in line for Iron Dragon, and rode that.. It was ok, but still a snoozer. The line for the Millennium Force was over an hour long, so I got on the train, went to the back, rode mean streak and the Mine Ride. Then I bought a park map and took it back to the car, and grabbed my jacket. On the way to the car, I ran into someone I went to high school with. Talked to with him for a few minutes, then I ran into Magnum Dan. Said hi and shook his hand. Its weird to meet people off a message board in real life ;)

I got in line for Top Thrill Dragster about 4 pm and it was great when I finally got on about 7:45! I got to know the people around me, and they were prett cool except these two jerks that were a few people behind me. They were getting quite upset that the ride kept breaking down. I asked them if they'd rather it not be open at all, and they said 'yes, at least I wouldn't be wasting my time'. The sign said 3 1/2 hours when we got in line, and it was only 15 minutes off.... They asked me if I worked for the park because I was all defensive... Later, they went on the left side of the split, and I went on the right side, and the people behind them were behind me, and they said they were glad to get away from those morons.

Top Thrill Dragster was worth EVERY minute I waited. It was great

I got off Top Thrill Dragster with enough time to get on Power Tower and then leave the park. I went to Battery park and took some pictures before the long drive home, arriving home a few minutes after midnight.

I could obviously tell the park and area is getting used to all the high volumes of people... The McDonalds on 250 took about 15 minutes to fulfill my order.. .And it was quite obvious that the employees of Cedar Point still weren't at top working order

On another note, it seems the Magnum and Millennium Force are a lot slower this year. Just an observation of mine, and I had seen it mentioned elsewhere. I think it might have been my imagination, but I dont know

Hey cool pics. I think you even got a picture of me in line for TTD. http://www.bholcomb.com/cp051403/51.html There is a person with a hat on in line, to the right of that person is a taller person with glasses on. I think that is me. We were on Iron Dragon when it broke down. That was fun. At least they gave us two tickets each to get on any ride except TTD through the exit.

Here are some of my pictures. I am the one with the blue and white jacket on.

I was very upset that TTD was not open in the morning on 5-14 and 5-15. We came from North Carolina and payed the extra money to stay at Hotel Breakers just to get in early and ride TDD first thing in the morning.

ok I just inspected (and uploaded) the original.. It looks like you were almost looking straight at me when I took the picture.

Uploaded the original - Warning, Large filesize(Gotta love the large resolution pictures my camera takes..): http://www.bholcomb.com/IMG_0073.jpg

It seemed to take them FOREVER to pull everyone off the ride... I couldn't tell too well, but it looked like they walked people down 1 by 1 on the main lift hill. I mentioned it to my mom when I got home, and she said she would have freaked.. I was just saying 'I pray that happens to me!!' :)

yeah the crowd got pretty rough after we went down mechanical, they thought it would be fun to play a game to see if people could guess how many times I rode total, in a day, in a season etc.

Yes that was me. We were looking to see if TTD was running because that's where we were headed to get our first ride. Being stuck didn't bother me, but it did bother one person a lot.
wow! nice pics! I would love to go on film day! I wonder if they would let me bring my camcorder in line and in the station of Millennium Force---I have to tape for my Senior Project...I wont be taking it on the ride, just in the line and station...

For some reason, service at many food places in Sandusky is terrible. I don't know why, it just seems to be part of the Sandusky culture. It's been that way for years.

Florida may have Disney World and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Well, we don't even go to the McDonalds on the causeway anymore.. our family calls it 'flyburger'. I can't remember which order, but my dad ordered something from there, and it either had a fly or a hair in it to start off, so he went in, and like 20 minutes later they fixed his order... and it had a hair or a fly (like I said, I can't remember if it was hair first, fly second, or other way around)

So needless to say, we don't eat there :)

Hope I didn't spoil anyones appetites

Who wants lunch?!? :)
