Exterior lighting

In another thread we talked a bit about the interior lighting of the station, well, I figured out what was on the outside as well. The lift towers are lit by High End Systems' (imagine that) new ES-1 models made specifically for architectural purposes. Check it out...

A good site if you're in to lighting, because they basically do it better than anyone else.

How much did that lighting actually cost? Didn't someone mention in a previous thread it being 250k?

I'm sure it wasn't cheap. High End fixtures are expensive, but look at what they're capable of. If I had to guess, based on prior new products for them, that's about $8,000 to $10,000 per fixture. There are six per tower, so you do the math!

Speaking of lighting, I looked for this topic, but couldn't find it. How did they get the light on the lift hill so perfectly confined to the structure itself? The only thing I could figure was some type of compressed light, but that would be almost impossible!

The light is flooded if anything. It's "confined" because there's nothing else for it to reflect off of. It's bright because if I remember correctly the wattage on the lamps is huge. The color saturation is outstanding because their filters are nothing short of awesome.

I think his question is why don't the colors bleed from one support to another.
[Given light's tendency to diffuse] *** This post was edited by Bill on 6/1/2000. ***
Yeah, Bill knows. I think about it though, and guess you probably can't tell from the distance you are from the hill that it is bleeding from support to support.

If you go to the URL above, they actually have a cool calculator that can help you determine beam spread based on the lens you're using. Like their fixtures, High End's Web site doesn't mess around!

I noticed last weekend that the lifthill lighting was not as bright as it was before. It could not be seen well from Magnum's lift,as in the previous weekends. Did they change the intensity of the lights or are they having problems(aka: hampsters getting tired!)? LOL

I noticed that on Tuesday night was well. Depending on what they're using for control, some systems have a master dimming pot, but I doubt that's the case here. Given the high color saturation of the lights, you can't see them without the intensity.

Yeah when I went last Friday I was sort of disappointed with the low intensity of the lights because I had read about hoe great they were on this site.
Awh man, I hope MF doesn't dud out like power tower did!
CP's lighting always "duds out." Looki at any ride with the exception of the Wheel. What is the major malfunction here?

Dispatch Master, This is Transport one! I'm losing control, I'm losing control!
I know - this is so frustrating. I am still bummed out about Magnum's tunnels and the "laser-like" chasers on the lift hill being gone. I'd love to know why this always happens.
Now wait a minute, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out why the lights would dim. Would you like to pay for the electricty that these lights are putting out?

I was kinda disappointed too at MF's lighting, and I would have thought they would have gone all out on Coastermania. Looks so GREAT on their website, but in person I could barely see it :(
However, MeanStreak is always a beauty to look at once it gets dark (although it seems to take FOREVER to get dark in Ohio!! What's up with that??) and Blue Streak's tracer lighting is a sentimental favorite of mine.

I assure you that paying for the electricity is not an issue. That's just silly.

My guess is that someone thinks they'll get more life out of the lamps (if I had to guess they're probably $100 each). Someone should probably tell them that the life savings is negligible.

are the lights covered with those famous winged friends?lol

*cough* Jeff *cough* Jeff's connections *cough*
:)

What a dud with the lights dimmed. Third hill looks great, PT looks great, Mantis looks great.
Can barely see MF now...:(

editor's note: I'm not implying the ride itself is a dud - I just think the "old" lighting was spectacular. Now it's just lighting. *** This post was edited by Mango Madness on 6/12/2000. ***
I agree with that one.
