Extended Downtime, Again

Ok, so tuesday has come and dragster is still down. Yet another perfect example of how you can't take cedar point employee's estimates of when a ride will be open to heart. Not even the head mechanic!

Arms down.....Arms down.....Arms down.......Arms down.....Arms down....Arms down...(you think they would get it the first time?!)

Yeah luckly we decided not to go today due to the likly Thunder Storm that will rumble thorugh Sandusky later this after noon.

I would want to expiernce a roll back because you would have the really long hang time at 0g. Like S:TE at SF:MM incredable weightless feeling for so long. And since I live in Ohio I don't have the funds to go all the way to MM to ride it.

It's not really all that fun, trust me. S:TE is really overrated. I don't know how many off these boards have been out there, but it was one of the most overhyped rides I have ever ridden. You don't even get 2/3 up the tower. There wasn't much 0g feeling either.. It's just generally overrated. :)

Liebevision, give 'em a break! All the rain we had yesterday must have impacted the work they were doing. CP technicians aren't meteorologists and can't predict the weather when giving a time estimate.

Rideman gave a good explanation of how the launch sled interacts with the trains a while ago. The dog that contacts the sled retracts when the sled releases, so during a rollback, nothing will hit the sled.

At least that's how it's designed to work, Pete :)

Oh, I know, I'm just saying that even their best predictions are just that, predictions, and shouldn't be banked on because you never know what will arise, such as a big freaking thunderstorm that kept me up all night! I'm not complaining and I'm totally understanding of this. I back cedar point work crews 100%, and am impressed by their level of dedication

Oh by the way I uploaded the photo of the launch sled here
http://only-viewable-at.homeofpoi.com/mycgi/album.cgi?photo=liebevision/dragster_parts_.jpg

It was origonally 2 photos, and I made them into one

It's my firebreathing album, but I don't have any other site to post it on, if you want you can take a look around, it's a really cool site.

hmm i dont know, i've been watching the Cam and it doesnt look like thers a lot of movement of trains, or anyone on the station platform.

But i do see people sitting in the grandstands, so i guess they must be testing, why else would so many people be sitting there? just looking at the track?

Yes. That's exactly what they're doing. Looking at the track. Heck, I'd pay $45 not to ride, not to eat, not to drink, but simply: to look at track.

;)

Go Full Force. :::::::::::::90

that was my poitn "neo" that they must be testing becasue no sesable person would sit and look at the track.
I was poking fun. Get over it.

Race for the Sky. :::::::::::::9

poke this
That sounded wrong in SO many ways.

Now that TTD is open, and this really isnt going anywhere, There is really no point to this.

well although it was open today (thank god) its still to be seen if this will be the last of the extended down time TTD has had this year. Which i think the down time has actaully surpassed the up time for this ride.
Okay, later report on the ride, I did go on Monday and the ride was down for the entire day. There was no hope that this ride was going to be open, the area between the launch pad and station was flipped inside out.

What I witnessed was the "air compressors" as I figured, white tanks, that were just hanging down off of the track onto the ground. The mechanics were working on the large wheel holding the cable under the launch pad.

Every time I go, it's something different, from all the differenct changese it only can improve. On Friday, the ride was closed till four and by that time they took the "magnetic plates" as I refer to them off and replaced by new ones.

While it was down, there were Cedar Point Employees walking towards the station from the area where you see the cables running into. He was walking down the track with what looked like a power washer spraying the plates.

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

TTD is open again, but for how long? Let's list the number of problems TTD was having since its opening (no particular order):

Cable snap

Hydraulic fluid contaminated

Sled taken a beating

Tires on trains flew off

Wow, lots of problems. At least I got my ride in a month ago. I bet the next problem will have something to do with the trains. But I ain't mad, because stuff happens. TTD is a prototype ride, so problems are expected. Kudos to CP for building this one of a kind thrill ride.

Don't forget the hydraulic piston that pushes the tension pulley blew. That was last week's problem.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

I just would like to say something about my last post, (that was closed) that i didnt bull**** any of that. I'm telling you pretty much the exact words that came out of a mechanics mouth. Although, most likely, HE (the ride mechanic) was bull****ting, because Cedar Point employees can be fired for telling guests what "Really" happened. As when i was standing in line for Top Thrill Dragster, a Game worker and her boyfriend were standing behind us, off work, and allowed to roam the park. (she showed me her CP little id thingie) and We asked her what was really wrong with Top Thrill Dragster when it shut down for like 3 weeks, and she said she knew, almost everyone who worked in the park knew, but if they told anyone and were caught they would be immediatly fired and charges would be pressed against them by Cedar Fair. So she didn't tell us diddly squat.

So im sure this mechanic knew the rules, and so he just decided to bull**** us, and say stupid ****, because someone else said they say them replacing the magnetic plates.

and I forgot to put in the part where he said that the plates did get out of alignment from the stress of the constant rollbacks. (if you looked carefully, some of the plates were slightly bent/ warped/ deformed) and if you dont belive me that it puts mass stress and heat on the brakes and track, just look at the brake run while you are standing in line and enjoy a mass show of heat waves :)

So yeah, i didnt quite believe him, but he may or may not have been telling the truth, the ride is open today, so I'm prolly going to go over to CP tonight with my friend.

Later
