Extended Downtime, Again

Yesterday workers were replacing the guards that the cable and launch mechanism run through. The head mechanic on site said that the cable had been shreading it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember this happening not too long ago.

How long do you think this downtime will be?? I am going in 9 days and I really would love to ride it

TTD: O

9 days???? I am going this Wednesday and Thursday. I am very worried they won't have it up and running by then. It won't be a big deal since I have been on TTD 6 times now...but I am very anxious to ride it a 7th and 8th time.
Yeah I guess your right about 9 days but I really want to ride it because I havent had the chance to yet

Interestingly enough the sled does not apparently have any wheels on it and simply skids along the nylon-plated track at 120 miles per hour.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

Yeah, and they act like they can't understand why the track lining is wearing down..... :)

gnayar, when I talked to the head mechanic he said they should be done tuesday. He offered this on his own accord. Now, this is when they are shooting for, whether it will be up then or not we shall see. Just thought you'd like to know

again with the launch sled, which keeps getting beat up on rollbacks.

After all those rollbacks Saturday night/early Sunday morning, it's no wonder it didn't work on Sunday then. Does anyone know why it was rolling back so frequently though? It didn't seem to be a function of the speed. The speedometer was reading consistently 122/123, but sometimes a 123 flew over the top with no problem and sometimes a 123 rolled back.

I can see it all now. The complaining, whining, and moaning will be on its way back now that TTD is closed for another extended period of time. But no need to worry for me. I can't go back to CP until at least next year anyway, and TTD should be more reliable next year.
Liebevision, did he mean Dragster would be up and running Tuesday or that byt the end of the day tuesday it will be ready? i know that kinda sounds stupid, nbut im going tomorrow and i would like to get my 3rd ride in and my friend's 1st.

He said that the goal was for the work to be finshed and the ride be in operation for tuesday. But no promises, remember, goals aren't always met, and something else might arise between when he said this and tuesday. So I wouldn't bet on it, but there is at least hope that it will be up then.

Jeff, you are exactly right. When I was there this weekend they had the end of the cable and the sled out of the track. I took pictures of both, if you want to see it, look on my profile, I have a composite (kinda) of the two pictures as my photo, or at least I will when it's approved for the site.

I was there late Saturday night into Sunday morning and was lucky enough to catch an amazing night ride on this awesome thrill machine. My wife and I also whitnessed the multiple roll backs and wondered if it would have that much effect on wheel temperature since the air temperature dropped quite a bit through the evening hours? We were just excited to have a higher probability to experience a roll back ourselves.

I am sure the brains at the Point are working overtime on this one.

I dont know, why do you guys think it would be so fun, wouldnt it scare the F*CK out of you??

edit: The rollback I mean!

i believe the joy in a rollback lies in the fact that you get back to back launches, with out that pesky few hours in between
I would want to expiernce a roll back because you would have the really long hang time at 0g. Like S:TE at SF:MM incredable weightless feeling for so long. And since I live in Ohio I don't have the funds to go all the way to MM to ride it. That's the reason I would want to be in a roll back. It would be a new experince that I havn't had yet :).
Since I have never seen a rollback when standing next to the launch track, I have a question on the launch sled. Dragster launches and rolls back. As the train is coming slowly back to the launch position does the launch sled wait to come back or is it coming back as the train is slowly rolling back to the launch? Just wondering that. I know the sled has to wait for the train to rollback past the hydraulic building where the sled lowers into the brakes and waits. But does the sled have to wait for the train to be parked in the launch before returning or can it return as a train is going backwards on the launch track instead of forwards?
