Definitely not the exciting news. Of course, they may have to hold up with the exciting news if it had something to do with Maverick.
Andrew said:And like others have mentioned this most likely isn't something they knew about for a while. On Friday I talked with some people at the park about media day and they didn't hint at it not happening. You don't print up and mail hundreds of invitations to an event knowing that you're going to cancel it.
You also don't print up t-shirts and make tons of merchandise with the logo and name of a ride with the intention of renaming the ride - ala Banshee. Because they had already sent out all the invites for Media Day, they were hoping to have everything fixed. It just didn't happen in time. Also, I highly doubt CP is going to tell some kid media day is potentially going to be canceled.
I understand your point Tim, but I'm just sharing my story - the vibes I got from the park was that this problem wasn't one that was known for a while. Just trying to through my 2 cents in.
I also don't appericate being called some kid. I wasn't asking the park about media day, they were telling me about media day.
I apologize.
I was just trying to say Cedar Point isn't going to tell anyone media day is off prematurely. That is a HUGE event for them and they're not going to cancel it until they absolutely have to. To many people, it may seem like just a cool event to see pictures and videos of the ride. But, it is crucial for the park to get the people who may not be planning a trip excited about the new ride. They don't take canceling an event like this lightly. That's most likely why they didn't mention anything to you.
For all we know, the media representatives for the park may not have even known. I sorta doubt that, but it's possible.
I'll give you that. My "point" simply was that maybe, from my point of view, it seems like it was more of a sudden problem they just noticed recently.
I was supposed to be covering Maverick for my station on Thursday. I talked to Bryan Edwards (PR for CP) on Friday about the satellite windows we needed and the like. I can assure you that as of Friday, media day was on. The park would have taken the time to coordinate all that goes on with media day if it was not going to happen.
I did think it was odd that a question I had for Bryan late Friday went unanswered. Usually he gets back within hours, and I did not get a return call from him until today. Obviously, the call was telling me my question was moot because the event was canceled. Bummer.
That leads me to believe that the decision was made sometime over the weekend or on Monday. Now, as was mentioned earlier, either the problem was discovered much earlier and the "fix" just wasn't done in time, or the problem was *just* discovered and it most likely will be later than early June.
I would like to think that the problem was found earlier but the new track wasn't ready in time for media day. In this case, they could have thrown out the "early June" timeframe to give themselves more than enough time to repair and test. Maybe those Screamscape rumors weren't so crazy...

Straight Line of Riders?
Teachers can't get 30 kids to line up in a straight line, what makes you think teen-age ride ops are going to fare better with 3000 adults?

HAHAHA... Well how bout the "G" line of riders then! either way, I agree policing this will be a problem as how to tell if someone is really riding by themselves... but if they can make it work, I think its a great perk to the park and could boost attendance if they implemented it on all the other big coasters. I hate standing in line by myself.
I'm thinking that the big news is going to be some sort of merchandise promotion where they'll be handing out some Maverick gear to the first couple thousand riders each day for the first week it's open, or something of that sort. This would correspond with Firehawk at Kings Island. I can only hope!
