Event Notice: Sept. 19

Christianity and rap/crunk seem to be combatants entirely.

Kings Island has always done a good job of integrating concerts in the park. I think it would be an interesting way to draw people to the park. At KI they would often correlate a concert with a deal on a starlight ticket if the concert started later. So, in all seriousness, I think concerts at CP would be great.

My church (Presbyterian) has a yearly halloween party for the kids. The chruch I grew up in - pentecostals, so pretty conservative - had halloween parties. My grandpa, an Assemblies of God pastor, used to come over to our house to hand out candy becuase he thought halloween was fun (and he liked to steal my candy). I'm just saying, the people that don't do halloween are a tiny minority of chuch goers and are a small subset even of fundys.

A concert on the beach sounds awesome....

I realized this, they could put it in the aquatic/ Extreme Stadium too. I think the concert is a good Idea. Inside Soak City is another good Idea, but not in the Parking Lot especialy if we have a nice weekend, we will need all the spots we can get.

Witches Wheel has a 54 inch height requirement, I don't care if your child rode Dragster, Magnum or, Millenium, they are not tall enough for this one!

Save The Big Dipper!

Just to reiterate, I'm not ridiculing Christians or even suggesting that said group was a majority. However, they do exist, I personally know way too many of them, and they make a stink everywhere they go. Inviting a "Christian" concert during Halloweekends to me simply meant I was going to have to see this group whine about this as the date grew near. And for the record Im a Christian who is quite active in my church.

I go to a Catholic church and for youth group last year we passed out candy at my Priest's house during Halloween.

First rollback=opening weekend '09

Lame for me. I have no interest in the artist. It might drive up attendance, and a "Summer Concert Series" I think would improve CP attendance if they offered some sort of deal (unless your platinum pass / day pass paid for the show, which is great)

"Family Force 5"

Sounds about as thrilling as Captain Planet.

That's the Brady Bunch, and that's six, not five. ;)

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I don't foresee any use in turning Camper Village into a permanent concert venue, mainly because Camper Village most likely brings in millions of dollars more per year than a concert venue ever could. Not to mention they tend to keep loud stuff like that away from the hotels.

I would love to see the Aquatic Stadium be either modified or rebuilt to be a house for concerts.

I doubt the Aquatic Stadium is even close to being big enough to hold the event.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

If they used the Aquatic Stadium and the area in between Iron Dragon / Wildcat where they hold the summer night lights special.

Imagine MTV filming for Fall Out Boy or something...

CP could sell tickets to the aquatic stadium for good bands, and people would pay to see them. It offers an intimate kind of setting with it being so small / close.

With that being said it could really work and they could throw shows whenever they had the right artists coming through.

Make the Aquatic Stadium shows cost additional money and the ones in the night lights area free for all obviously.

What about using the Good Time Theater for the concert. Surely the stage is large enough, but is there enough seating? Has to be close to the Aquatic Stadium.

I think that for the most part the Halloweekends thing and a Christian rock concert would be OK. The thing you have to watch out for is people that complain such as the recent post on this site about "gay day" at the park. The problem i have is that religious people tend to see things there way and there way ONLY and WILL complain at the site of anything they feel is wrong. Once again go back to the post. That person was religious and christian i believe and was prepared to go to Dick Kinzel about the gay day thing. In my opinion we don't need that crap in our park. Cedar Point is not a place that reminds me of anything religious or associated with it, and i am worried that being Halloweekends and this concert something is going to breakout in terms of complaints. I hope for CP's sake everything goes well.

As for the crowds i think that most of the people on this site and season pass holders will avoid this event as they should being that we can visit all summer. I feel bad for the people who plan there only CP trip for the year not knowing what they are getting themselves into. With that being said i think the crowds will be busy but there will be busier Saturdays throughout the season.

As a Christian myself (who happens to have a pretty conservative set of values), I'm disappointed that some of you have had experiences that lead you to say things like:

"howin the world is christian rock and Halloween supposed to mix? There aregoing to be some pissed off radical righters who truck their family upand see "satanic images" all over the park"

"Soyou're telling me there will be no vocal minority of born againChristian families who think Harry Potter promotes satanic worship andwho actively try every year to squash Halloween festivities at localschools?"

There is a large group of Christians that don't fit into any of those categories, but are often lumped into them anyway by a lot of people. Sure, I don't like things that are actually satanic or are overly gory, but my family and I dress-up, trick-or-treat, go to Halloweekends every year and have a great time.

Some of your comments were not making any generalizations at all and some were. I'm just asking people not to throw everyone that calls themselves a Christian into the same category... or perhaps better said:

Please understand that some Christians are just as disgusted as you are when people try to shut down harmless school programs, protest at funerals or do other outrageous things in the name of Christianity.

I absolutely believe that knowing Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, but far be it for me to force my beliefs on you if you don't. Sharing my thoughts and beliefs is one thing, forcing them on others is another entirely.

All I'm asking is for you to give some of us Christians a shot to disprove the stereotypes.

Kings Island has a fairly significant dedicated venue for concerts. Cedar Point doesn't, and frankly I don't think it would be a particularly good use of space for something used infrequently.

You know Kings Island almost looked fun, until I saw it on Live maps, haha.

I am never going anywhere without checking live maps out to see what it looks like.

You know what, that is something I did not think about, the Good Time Theater. It has plenty of stage space, the lighting and sound rigs are already there and set up, and it has plenty of seating. I wonder just how many seats there are in there?
And if they want a smaller venue then they always have the pre-show area also, and they could use that without having to drain the ice rink inside. Though I don't see how that could take more than a couple of minuets to drain and refill, now the freezing that's another thing.

Actually, we had a discussion here a while back (I think it was before last summer, but I don't feel like digging it up) about the seating capacities of the Aquatic Stadium and the Good Time. If I recall correctly, The Good Time Theater only seats between 600-800, whereas the Aquatic Stadium evidently seats around 1,200. The Good Time Theater would be way too small of a venue for this, and the Aquatic Stadium could be as well.

TopThrillChris, how about actually paying attention to almost every single post made by Walt, myself, or others after posts like yours.

As for a dedicated concert space, I think it depends on how its handled. To include it in or right alongside the park on the peninsula would make the most sense to me. But like Ralph pointed out earlier, the only good place I can see for such a facility right now is too close to the resorts (although all concerts I've been to at KI have usually finished around a half hour before the park closes, enough time to grab a ride on Beast). I can see the draw of the facility going either way (good or bad) for touring acts because of only being an hour away from Cleveland, although a lot of groups do make two stops in Cleveland if they're coming back through the area. A dedicated facility at the Point could make for a good alternative to stopping at The Q if they come back through. It is also close to Toledo, another usual stops for concerts, so there's another negative. I guess the main question is if a concert stop at Cedar Point would be a unique enough drawing point.
