The thing I always love about the approach to WDW, other than the overhead sign, are the purple freeway signs. That just screams Disney to me.
Just because the view coming over the causeway is so awe-inspiring doesn't mean that having a more dramatic entrance sign would be redundant. It would just add to the effect. (Though this certainly wouldn't be high on my list of things to improve at CP.)

^ Which is why I responded the way I did. Much like your post in the "Do you think any park could ever replace CP..." thread, I have always harped about the "little things" (food experiences, small scenery touches, etc) that could really put CP over-the-top. It would be way down on the priority list, IMO.
Promoter of fog.

A sign is a sign though, and at the end of the day, I'm not sure Cedar Point of all places actually needs one.
At the end of the day, most people are too tired and too fed up with the traffic jam in the parking lot and on the Causeway to care about a sign that reminds them that they are leaving Cedar Point...

I understand the position of many so far that the sign is superfluous. However, I still say it is your first chance to set an atmosphere or expectation of great things to come. Little things can matter. After all, don't a lot of us bemoan the fact that the fog effect or the water cannnons on Maverick are no longer used (or seldom used). Clearly, the sight of Maverick itself and the thrill of the ride are enough, right? Yet, we want them back because they add something to the experience.
BTW, at WDW, I've seen people pull off the side of the road to walk up to the sign just to have their picture taken with it, with no parks in sight. The sign does have an effect.
If your billed as the greatest amusement park in the world, then act like it.
I read somewhere once that Walt got the idea of taking the monorail or ferry to the MK from Cedar Point back in the old days. He liked the fact that you parked your car in Sandusky and took the ferry over to Cedar Point. He thought this added to the "journey" of going to a magical place. He also liked the fact that you laid out your cash at the TTC, and by the time you actually got to the MK you forgot about how much you paid to get there.
Fact of fiction.....who knows.......
Also, where are they going to put the sign? If you want to have a welcome sign that is for everyone, then you need to have it by the parking gate since the Causeway doesnt hook up to Peninsula road till then. They way I come to CP (from route 4) I don't ever see a welcome to CP sign.
