I live in Florida and was at WDW this weekend. Driving onto the property, I was once again struck by the large over-the-road sign that welcomes you to their "world". I couldn't help but think of last summer, when driving to the Point, how I had to look to find the entrance sign. This topic may have been discussed before, but don't you think maybe this year, with no new rides expected, that they could do some entrance work? I think they need to elevate that sign and make that first turn off of Rt 250 (?) look more eye catching.
What would you do?
Unlike WDW, that particular property is not owned by CP so it is up to the city of Sandusky to make the Butler St. ramp more eye-catching.
I do remember seeing a prototype of a Welcome arch coming in 250 just before going over the overpass to Butler St. Like everything else in Sandusky though, it ended up as a pipe dream.

In Sandusky...they literally dream of pipes. There is some serious infrastructure work needed there.

I was happy when they installed the sign they did back in like 2002 or whatever it was. Before that, there was literally nothing.

Sure there was.... Way back when.. I think it was taken down around the late 80s or early to mid 90s... I remember there being a sign right on the water maybe 50 yards to the right of the new sign. It just said "CEDAR POINT" in plain block letters.. The signage they have now is a great improvement.. And you know how CP goes with themeing..... Let's just leave it the way it is.

The sign they installed is okay, but lighting it with plain floodlights seems a little cheap. Making a sign that could light up from the inside, even cycle colors like MF, that would have been nice.
A sign is a sign though, and at the end of the day, I'm not sure Cedar Point of all places actually needs one.
But what do I know? Sandusky sure likes their signs, and their new electronic billboards...

I remember the old sign resembled some what of the old Disneyland marquee. In fact here's a short clip of it on youtube:
I just disagree. I dont care how big a sign Disney World creates, no park can ever match the drive up the causeway.
To me, that's how Cedar Point says "Welcome to our world".

It's no approach via monorail.

I like our sign a lot. Maybe add a few better lights, but that's all it needs. I always felt though that they need a sign that looks at drivers coming the opposite direction (towards Castaway Bay).

It's too close to the ground, as Ben's picture shows. You don't see it until you are on top of it. The older sign on the youtube video was elevated. Granted, its not going to matter to those coming in for the day, but it is your first chance to introduce yourself to your guests. Why not do it with a splash?
Their guests are already there, and aren't likely to turn back because the sign didn't meet their expectations. Or, as The Man himself would purportedly say, there's no ROI on the sign.

Nothing like looping around SSE when headed to EPCOT.

I'll go old school on ya...nothing beats the pretzel turns over the submarine lagoon at Disneyland.
As much as the sign at Rt 6 is the entrance...nothing beats your first glimpse of the skyline as you are heading out over the Causeway. Once you get past the A-Frames and Condos....BAM!
I think Cedar Point should steal a bit from Disney and build a big arch over the road right there on the causeway. "Theme" the arch to look like a roller coaster with the a big "America's Roller Coast" right below the "hill".

I agree 100% Keven
I could care less how big WDW signs are. They don't have that nice drive with water in each side of you and the sight of Dragster and Milli right in front of you!
DAMN i miss CP right now!

Its not the signs at Disney though. As much as I love driving up the causeway and trying to see whats running, it won't replace walking under the train and onto Mainstreet USA.

Yeah, you can't really duplicate the approach via monorail or boat to the Kingdom entrance gates...and then stepping under the train onto Main Street with the popcorn smell, the castle in the distance, the band playing in the square.
