EMS/EMT/Firefighter

So a couple questions. I'm in my sophomore year of college and I'm probably going to pursue becoming a paramedic after school. I am a volunteer (not certified, we're under the command of another fire department) firefighter with my school. Even though we're not certified we've been learning a lot and our fire chief has been teaching us a ton. I'm not a certified EMT either (not even an EMT-B). I AM certified in CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding. I DO NOT want to lifeguard. I've lifeguarded for years.

I want to know what kind of qualifications you need to be part of EMS at CP for the summer? Do you have to be a certified EMT? I'm hoping with my certifications I can join and be kind of always with a certified EMT/paramedic. Does anyone know anything about this? I think it'll be a great learning experience and would also help me decide if i want to pursue becoming a paramedic.

What kind of hours do EMS/EMTs get at CP? Any other information you can give me about being part of the EMS/EMT/Firefighter at CP would be greatly appreciate.

hello mphoto11,

To work for CP Fire/EMS you must be cert in OH at the EMT-B level or higher. The firefighters also must be cross-certified as EMT or higher. The hours for these positions vary but you can generally make your own availability and get upwards of 50+ a week.

There are a few other positions within the safety dept. that do NOT require an EMT cert. There are safety driver (doing courtesy drives for guests) and front desk clerk positions. These both require alot of face to face contact and may be a good first step to interacting in a medical setting with patients.

If you are interested in more information, send me a message.
