Employment Question...

Hello everyone, I have a question for those of you who currently work at the Point. It seems (from reading your posts) you all really enjoy your jobs for the most part.

Well, I am considering trying to get a job there next summer and have a question about how the hiring works there. I live and go to school in Illinios, so my first question would be how does the interview process work, does it have to be in person, or can it be over the phone.

Second, how often do they hire directly into Supervisory positions? I have 5 years expierence in Food Service at Six Flags Great America (I know, a competing park). I am sure our Management Structure is differnt then Cedar Point's but I am the highest level one can be seasonally at the park.

I appreciate any help you may be able to offer, sounds like your expierences are very similar to mine working in the same type of business. Thanks again everyone!

After you send in your application, they are supposed to call you and you can have your interview over the phone. However sometimes your name will get lost in the shuffle and you'll need to call them.

As for the supervision position, you have a good chance. Just let them know on your app and during your interview and I'm sure it will be considered. I know that sometimes in rides first years are put in leadership positions.

Last year was my first summer at Cedar Point. I worked in Foods with Tony Aaron (he's the man that gets stuff done) and after like 2 weeks, I was a blue tag supervisor in Soak City Foods along with the occasional back-of-the-park food locations. It's really not all that hard, just prove that you are a hard worker and tell the higher-ups that you want to start moving up. It pretty much just goes from there.

P.S. - I'm in Rides now - not because I didn't like foods, but MANTIS ROCKS!

I was a double blue in foods this year, and I know there were 2 area sups in foods that had worked in that capacity at a six flags park. Will they hire you in as a supervisor? probably not, but if you are qualified for a supervisory position, you will most likely be promoted. Every location ideally starts with one supervisor, and at peak staffing has at least 2, possibly 3.

As for interviews, I'm from Atlanta. You fill out an application, and they'll call you if they want to, or if they do not call within a few weeks, call them. I did not apply for a position in foods, but within a week of submitting an application someone let word out that my application had alot of prior food service work, so a couple foods silver tags emailed me and wanted to interview. within 24 hours of that first email I had been offered a position (not a sup. at first).

Foods is probably the easiest place to get promoted fast. I've known so many people this year that were first year red tags that became blue tags in foods.

I agree that Foods is one of the best places to get promoted to leadership and supervisory positions quickly, but probably you wouldn't be hired as such since you don't have experience with exactly how Cedar Point works. But since you have other experience, you could make it known once you're there that you're interested, and if an opening was available (almost a guarantee), you'd have a great shot at it. Good luck!
Ben, I was one of the aforementioned area supervisors that got hired in from Six Flags Darien Lake. (Go area 3). If you want to send me an EMail or something (you can instant message me at Rew190 which would probably be easier), I can outline some of the mundane differences. Feel free to get in touch.

Hellos go out to all of the Food Service/Area 3 folks...

Ben, I'm the other area supervisor from Six Flags that was hired as an area sup. at Cedar Point. I'll be happy to answer any questions for you. You can e-mail me or get me on AIM at Americana213. Seeya

Hi to area 1 foods!

Working in food operations is not bad...But its hot, dirty, and long. Try to get someplace where you can talk to people. I enjoyed working a sipper stand because I could meet girls.

One thing about the management in food ops. Ask yourself why they get promoted so fast. You will meet some very nice folks there. I ran accross a disproportionate number of a-holes as well; most of whom were on "little hitler" power trips. Turnover is very high thus the need for bodies!!!

i've worked at the park for 4 seasons now and yes you can get hired directly into a supervisor role, many people are each season....and with your background in food services at six flags it will highly be considered, an area sup is the highest seasonal position and the other two boys were hired into that position directly and i know another that was a double blue at a restaurant.......if your really interested then just make sure you mark so on your application and good luck.......if you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me at shanny18@hotmail.com

HI AREA 3 folks and all other food services employees :-)
