Why do you want to be a sweep so bad?

2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator
I was a sweep for a day while Twister had its extended downtime...let's just say I have a lot of respect for sweeps now. And I wasn't even a full-fledged sweep, I just did the basic walk up and down the main midway with a pan and broom for hours on end. ugh
Don't let it discourage you, obviously people like it or there wouldn't be so many people doing it....but I know being a sweep isn't for me. heh *** Edited 8/6/2007 7:31:33 PM UTC by kirk06***

I was a sweep for a day or two when Millennium went down last season, and though I didn't mind it at all, I couldn't see myself having an ambition to be a sweep, especially if it just seems to be an "easy job." Although I guess if you keep your hopes low, you won't get disappointed. ;)

I don't really want to work rides at the moment, it's too much responsibility. I don't want to put anyone in danger, because I'm too stupid to memorize the spiels, or check a harness correctly.
Anyway I hope you all enjoy the website, I've just put up POV's of Maverick, Millennium Force, Gemini, Mean streak, Mantis,, Corkscrew, and Magnum. Be sure to post in the forum, and register an account. *** Edited 8/7/2007 12:47:49 AM UTC by SweeperAlex***
I work as a sweep on a Friday during halloweekends. It was horrible, I was cold, it was boring, it's a bitch when you watch a guest throw something on the ground right in front of you, you want to punch them. Or when they pour an entire bag of popcorn all over the midway and you ar ethe first sweep to come across it, fun times. I'll stick with being a ride op any day.

When my buddy and I worked at Disney I was a ride op and he was a "sweep". Without a doubt he had a far more interesting season there then I did.
While I was tied down to a ride day in and day out, week after week, he was free to move all over the park as he worked different zones. He had much more interaction with the guests than I did (even though I was on a "spieling" attraction), got to know more of the employees (as he moved all over) and so forth.
I enjoyed what I did...but he had a far better working experience than I did and I'm sure he would tell you the same thing.

All the sweeps I've talked to throughout the summer didn't seem to be enjoying their job. Usually the ones that came through the entrance gates all day. If you don't want to work rides, or put anyone in danger, and do something thats easy and involves little work, then I would do admissions. Not only that but you get to interact with thousands of guests a day so thats fun. you can also do surveys around the park, which I hated but some people think its fun.

I worked in foods and really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed cleaning up tables (which no one else wanted to do) because I could talk to the female park patrons!
For all of you who have been sweeps before, what is your favorite part about it? My mom said she wanted to be one, cuz she wanted to be there to help lost guests in the midways when they come up to you.
What's also your least favorite part about it?
