Employee Theft

Has anyone here ever had a problem with theft while living in employee housing, especially in Cedars? I didn't have any problems last year, but I wanted to know if it was still a big problem?

i dont know about cedars, but in 02 one of my roomies ps2 and games got stolen. also my dvd player got taken that year. and in 03 one of our roomies went on a "shopping spree" in our apt. so you need to be careful who your roommates are. and im sure it is a big problem still.

Last year we had several reported thefts on my floor of 1400 in Commons. There were like 2 laptops stolen and money, I think. It was more than one time, and the people had their stuff locked up too. They broke into them by busting the hinges, I think.

The CP Police couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it either, which sucked.

That's why I am keeping nothing but clothes and toiletries in my room. Everything valuable will be in my car. It's too easy for people to steal **** there, and they will.

Get a padlock if you've got anything of slight value. I bought one. Try to live with people you know. I hope to live with my brother and someone on my crew.

But a padlock is probably your best bet. And don't bring anything valuable there. I think the most valuable thing I bring with me is my camera, and it's with me at all times. At night it's locked in my locker.

1,146 rides on Raptor. Three rides in 2009.

I brought my desktop, and I think that it worked in my favor. Since it's rather large, it would have been fairly difficult to sneak off with a CPU tower and LCD. Not saying it couldn't happen, just that it's much less mobile than a laptop.

You could also go for a laptop lock. I got one for my computer for about $30 when I moved into my college dorm. They're not fool-proof because you could easily cut through them with a simple tool, but it would help protect it from someone who just wants to snatch it.

Are you sure this isn't the Atlantic Ocean?

Yeah, mine has a combination, not a key, and the cord is about twice as long, but it's the same basic thing. Like I said, it wouldn't be the hardest thing to cut through, but it would save it from someone who just wanders in and wants to take whatever they can carry.

Just wanted to mention that I can think of at least one car that was broken into last year, but then again, maybe CP PD will do something if its a car. Otherwise, youre just s.o.l., apparently.

if you get to know alot of people on your floor and your building then you have nothing to worry about.

thats fine and dandy for 1500's and Cedars, but what about apartments? too many people, and thats before you take in everyones guests and buddies.

To put it into perspective, I was planning on bringing my computer this year. Then I realized I was staying in the apartments.. Thats 16 people that, in best of circumstances, are your closest friends. But unless someone is there 24/7 ( and someone wont be ) someone can easily waltz in and start working on doors, locks, and other things without being seen.

And thats if you can even trust your roommates.
