Ellex King from the Discovery Channel

Does anyone here remember Ellex King from the Discovery Channel Top 5 Coaster? He was the one that did the MF.

Now if you want to believe this or not, I met him today (10/12/02) at the park by the new construction.

This was his out take on the new ride.

First he believes that the ride will be a 500 footer.
Reasons:
1. CP is in competition with SFMM with there so call SM ride
2. After this ride is built, this will be the cap, meaning no other park will be able to build anything taller than 500 ft.
3. If you look at radio towers, they are red and white as part of some safety thing with aircraft, that's why we see red and white track.

Ellex also mentioned that if we look on the midway, (which this topic has been discussed before) we see markings, which he says will be footers for the ride to extend out into the hotel parking lot. So the midway will be busted up for some footers after the season.

So this theory of the L:TH:B may be false, hopefully speaking on Ellex's part. Hopefully he is true in what he has to say about this ride.

If your not having fun, what are you having?

How fast will it be then?
I don't know why I didn't ask, but he never said.

oh, ok then thanks for the good info.
OK thats just about the most off base thing I have heard. Since when is CP in competition with SFMM, I thought we already established that. Why wouldnt any other park be allowed to build one higher? I also dont buy the whole red and white deal either and I seriously doubt its going to go into the hotel lot. Sure something is going to be put on the midway as you can tell from the markings but I dont know about the parking lot.

Im a lurker....

Well like I said, this is what Ellex told me, that is the truth. Now like what your saying about 500ft, going out into the hotel parking lot, I don't know how much truth in that there is. But this is what he said.

I don't know, since CP used him for a Discovery show, I thought, maybe, he might know a little about the ride, ya know?

when are they going to announce it did he say anything about it?
Doesnt mean he knows any more than anyone else, its just speculation like everyone else has been making so I wouldnt read too much into it.

He's probably just jerkin' your gurken! C'mon! Be serious for a second! He probably enjoys screwing with people as much as the the people at CP do with their "Guess What" cam and such. He probably doesn't know any more than any of us.

Of course he doesn't know anything more about it than we do. This is why he said "He believes". He might know a little more about what goes on behind closed doors from doing that episode which would give him somewhat of an educated guess. He most likely was just giving out his opinion and insight just like we all do here everyday. But it was nice of Franklyn to post the conversation (real or not) because it gives us all something more to think about. I haven't even thought of them going for 500ft, mainly just because the they haven't got the 400ft mark yet.

The Fast and the Fearless

I don't know about the whole "500 ft." thing, but the idea with the ride extending to the parking lot would make sense. Just because of the webcam. Cedar point put the webcam there, and if it were to extend into the parking lot, then they wouldn't have to move it once the winter construction starts. Plus, the only reason they don't have one closer, probably is because they know that all the other websites would have updates every week and new pictures. It just makes sense.

it does seem strange to me that, if its only L-TH-B, they wouldn't point the cam directly at the only element. I'd be surprised if it goes into the parking lot, though.
thrillseeker.... most radio towers are red and white. at least over here in youngstown, cleveland, columbus, akron, etc
Just kind of curious on this "Red and White Track due to Aircraft" thing. If this were valid shouldn't the bright yellow TOWER be Red and White??? The antenna on a tower is not Red and White, the TOWER is Red and White. These parts of the track are clearly lower than the tower is now. If, at some point (similar to Xcelerator), the track extends above the tower, the Aircraft thing may make sense. Admittedly, other fly the planes when I fly -- and, therefore, they know the rules of the air.
Towers aren't required, as far as I know, to be red and white. Most of the ones here in Indiana aren't at least. The FAA only requires they have blinking lights. You ever notice the ones on Millenium Force and Power Tower? As long as they have the blinking lights, the FAA doesn't regulate structure height outside of flight paths directly around an airport, as long as they have the required lights.

As far as the law governing the height of coasters, who is trying to pass that law? Post a link to a valid article about it then I'll believe it. Like I said in another thread, NJ passed a law governing G forces, not height. As far as I know, no one is even considering a height law. Again, show me proof.

Ellex is a good buy, but 500 feet it will not be.
