Drinking beer in queue

djDaemon's avatar

I think there are multiple reasons for this policy, all of which have been mentioned. I'm glad this policy exists, otherwise I'm sure there would be folks who would bring in a cache of beer to consume during their long wait.

Besides, what's the point of drinking in line when you can't smoke in line? Every smoker knows that you can't drink without smoking! :)

I'm almost positive that it's about controlling consumption and keeping it legal. As it is, CP is one of the few parks I've been to where you can buy a beer and carry it around the park. Most places have limits to where you can take it, and that's all about keeping it out of the hands of minors. If you give a kid a drink in the queue, it would be really hard to enforce the law. I mean, they can't even keep people from smoking in the queue.

I wouldn't do it anyway. The stuff runs through me, and that would be bad in a long line.

My wife and I always have a few beers while enjoying our day at CP, and as Jeff mentioned, yes, CP is one of the VERY few parks where you can walk around with your drink. At all Busch parks (ironic, isnt it?) there are designated areas, at Dorney Park you can only buy beer in ONE place (Gameday Grill) and it has to stay inside, and at Six Flags you also have to stay at the place you bought it, just to name a few.

I do have to say, the posts about "throwing up", "being drunk", and "bad for your brain" are overstated generalizations, as we are both highly responsible, but I also understand that many would NOT be responsible.

I understand why the rule exists, and while I personally would like to be able to take my beer into line while I wait (i dont have the pee pee problem), I understand why I cannot, and dont take it personally. I'll enjoy the fact that CP lets me walk around with it in the first place.

I consider it a privelage to be able to take a slow stroll through Frontier Town with my beer on a 90 degree day.

That being said, the smoking in line seriously has to stop. Ive noticed it mainly in MF's line, and what is most irritating is that even when asked, employees often do not do anything about it. (I always go out of my way to personally thank those who do, though).

I agree with not having beer in line. People move, someone gets bumped.. It happens.

So by that logic, any other drinks such as pop should not be allowed in line either.

I'd rather be covered in soda than beer, personally. Less explaining if I get pulled over on the way home.

I was shocked that I was allowed to bring my beer into the line waiting for DarKastle last summer.

But the whole, "don't spill beer on me, cause I'm gonna melt" thing is really pushing the limits. I've had more soda spilled/ sprayed on me by young kids in line than you could possibly imagine.

Now if parks could only get rid of the soda machines and keep the water ones, the world would be a perfect place.

Yeah, the whole spilling thing is a garbage reason. I've had people's drinks that they bought from the machines in line spray all over me while waiting.

Unfortunatly for that argument, a majority would rather it was soda or water or anything else other than beer/liquor being sprayed or spilled. Have you ever tried to get that beer smell off of you at the bar before you get in the car to head home? It's damn near impossible and if you get pulled over (I'm the Designated driver a lot) you get a lot of crap as opposed to the cop smelling Mt. Dew.

I agree with some of the previous posts in being glad we're allowed to walk around the park with beer in hand. Its a tradition to get a beer at the Red Garter Saloon, grab a bench near MF's station and watch the first hill while drinking it. :)

Well there are two questions here:

1. Why would you be pulled over if you were obeying all laws?

2. If you weren't drinking, you have nothing to fear. All State Police officers are now equipped with this little hand held mini- breathalizer. It takes about 15 seconds to read and you don't even have to leave your car.

Any kind of alcohol going around with lots of people between the ages of 16-20 going around is dangerous.

I still don't agree with the rule. Anyone under 21 who tries to drink beer are taking a big risk of getting caught by the CP police, and then you won't "enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point!"

Just like going to a baseball game, the first thing is getting a beer, always have to have that beer.

Yes, but CP Police aren't in every queue line every hour of every day to watch out for it.

That's why it's not worth the risk! You never know when the cops will show up. I saw 2 guys busted waiting in line for magnum a few years ago & they were arrested.

I think the chances are greater that they wouldn't be caught...

She got it. It's so someone 21+ can't pass the beer to someone under 21. And for the reason Ben mentioned. I don't see a problem with this rule.

How is it any harder to do that on the midway?

I once saw two guys with several beers in their pockets who peed off the bridge between the stations on Millennium Force. They were not caught.

Remember the old adage:

"It's only illegal if you get caught." :)
