Drinking beer in queue

Can someone explain why guests (21 & over) can't drink a beer while waiting in line? I know maybe 10 years ago people did. When did this policy change?

I am a non drinking person, but i would say because there
are people under 21 also waiting in line . Why would you
want to drink beer and then throw up on somebody next to
you while riding? I personally would not be pleased and would
throw you in lake erie from the millennium force. *** Edited 6/18/2006 4:49:53 PM UTC by steelvenom***

That, and to dissuade intoxiacted people from riding perhaps.

cause the beer can effect (or affect) your body possibily causing damage to your body/brain.
That would be my guess.
or-
they don't want to have to put up with drunk people in line.

Some drunk people vomit anyways.
What would happen if you are drunk and being dropped 300 feet or being turned upside down 6 times.

Plus, they can probably sell more if they keep all the people together at one place instead of having them walk back every time they want another one.

"Ive got the need, the need for speed!"

I'm sure it has nothing to do with their wanting to maintain their image as a family-oriented establishment.

It's in every effort to help keep the park family oriented, among other reasons. I completely understand the rule, and personally, I agree with it. What few people realize, is that beer isn't even suppose to be taken off the front porch of wherever it is purchased.... but that's pretty difficult to enforce.

Yes, because everyone who drinks a couple of beers always vomits all over the place as a result. It's guaranteed. It says so on the packaging!

I think it's more along the lines so that they don't have problems with people spilling their beer on other guests, or acting like jerkoffs in line. They definitely have priced the beer so that it isn't very cheap to get drunk at the Point.

Go down to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando and you'll see exactly why CP doesn't allow beer in line...not only did I get beer spilled on me TWICE because people were acting like idiots, but the amount of empty bottles on the ground was rediculous. That definately takes away from the family atmosphere of the park.

Cedar Point rocks my socks.

I would say about 95% of that policay is based on maintaining a family atmosphere and to prevent people from going overboard in line. I would say the other 5% is due to Ohio's rider responsibilty law. You know that line on the rider safety signs that states: "ORC Section 1711.551 states that riders must behave in a manner......" I would assume that its a 5% inclusion so that it doesn't put the park in a position to defend the operator who refused an intoxicated individual to ride (such action by an operator or owner of an amusement ride in Ohio is protected under law). Then a resulting action may also occur where the intoxicated person may have anger issues and cause damage or harm to others because he or she is irate that he or she is not being allowed to participate in an attraction because he or she is intoxicated and may cause harm to themselves or others while participating.

If the no alcohol in line policy is in effect then the chances of an operator having to deal with an unruly intoxicated guest at the point of entry to the units is greatly reduced, thus creating a safer environment for the operators and surrounding guests.

Such a long explaintion of my 95 / 5% theory.

Also, in my experience the park is very careful about checking ID's and keeping tabs on WHO is actually consuming alcohol. My boyfriend once bought a beer and then I had a couple sips and they actually came over and carded me as well. It's virtually impossible to control who is consuming alcohol in the queues, they can't even keep people from smoking in them!

I havnt seen anyone drink, but have seen alot of smokers in line. I really wish that they would inforce this a little better because I hate having smoke blowing around my face so close to me.

That's for sure... saw tons of that yesterday... especially in the Millennium and Mantis lines.

Strange enough on my last visit, as my Dragster train had slowed enough to look at the queues, I saw about 3 people in a small stretch of the line with Beer in their hands. I'm guessing the Entrance person missed it.

The bad part of it is when a guest approaches Entrance, we would tell them that they could not take their beer in the queue... so what would they do?... They would always chug it, and then go in.

Part of me wishes they would just sip it slowly in the queue rather than chug it, but I completely understand CP's rule.

This threa shows how a lot of people (not all) are misinformed and/or making stupid assumptions.

Well Coastern3rd, why don't you inform us :)

She got it. It's so someone 21+ can't pass the beer to someone under 21. And for the reason Ben mentioned. I don't see a problem with this rule.

Actually Vanessa you had one of the smarter posts. :)

It was things like:
"Why would you
want to drink beer and then throw up on somebody next to
you while riding?" and "cause the beer can effect (or affect) your body possibily causing damage to your body/brain.
That would be my guess."

The chances of this happening are the same as a sober person doing it. If a person is drunk or the beer they as they approach the line is going to make them faced, whats the difference?

I agree with not having beer in line. People move, someone gets bumped.. It happens. Also your post about passing on beer to minors is also a very good possibility.
