dramatic lighting?

Wow. I like that lighting. It's a good thing it's at the back of the park, or it might cause a few fender-benders on I-71...

I cannot wait to ride it! Hopefully they will have it up and running when I visit..in July. ;)

You know, with the way that thing looks (all lit up, anyway), I'm a bit surprised they didn't go with an alien/UFO theme, at least at one or two of the parks.

I was going to make a crack at the fact that CP sucks at theming, but they have done a decent job in the past few years. TTD, Maverick, and shoot the rapids all pretty much have a good theme going with it.

I haven't ever been to King's Island. How is there theming over there?

well, KI's theming is actually pretty good.....bc when it used to be paramount owned, the theme is left over from that. Stunt track, the crypt, beast, drop tower, and the whole front of the park, international street, are all really great.

You will find that if you ride flight of fear, it makes disaster transport look even more crappy......great space and star trek theme there ;)

You mean it is better than an Alaska crash, space ship, 3D neon glowing hands, domo theme? No way. lol.

I would really like to get to King's Island one day though. Flight of Fear sounds kind of nice if it is like DT but better. :)

It launches you inside the station and the whole ride is dark, and it goes upside down several times. It is a great ride, IMO

there is an outdoor version of this at six flags america, called "joker's jinx." Also good ride :)

I like that lighting a lot; it looks like the different colors are spilling out over the top of it. I saw the Flaming Lips last week, and their stage had similar lighting.

That thing is going to look beautiful at the Point.

You caught the Lips? Man, I'm intensely jealous. Where did you see them?

Detroit, Mike. It was last Friday, so my girlfriend and I made a weekend getaway of it. The venue was the Fillmore, and it was in a nice grand setting. The enormity of the stage show (and its overall intensity) drove home the point that they are basically this era's Floyd equivalent. I mean, Wayne put slipped on these giant hands, and shot lasers out of his palms, and into a disco ball. That's an unqualified spectacle right there.

It was a long time coming, too, as fate always intervened. I missed seeing them at Blossom in 2006 because I had to take the MPRE the next day. I'm still a little chapped about that...

In short, if you get the chance to see them, go.

And on topic...the only downside to this lighting package is the limited amount of darkness during operating hours. I'm used to timing everything to get a couple night rides on MF during darkness. Now I'm going to have to work this flat ride into an already-crowded evening schedule!

Glad you got the chance to go. For a few years, they appeared every August at Blossom down here, but it was always on the weekend my wife and I celebrated our anniversary. They're one of the top Bands I Haven't Seen But Really Want To, along with Radiohead and Fountains of Wayne.

Did they bring out the spaceship, and did Wayne come out in the giant ball?

Sorry to temporarily derail the topic.

I was watching the webcam with windseeker, so see the lights at night on it, and it seems they only have it on one color setting- white.

As the cam updated, it wasn't changing colors at the top, it stayed white. I hope they change the colors once it opens, like kings island's lights on theirs :)

Those have been on before. They're prob set as white for maintenance reasons. The hatch inside the tower is open and a light is on so they must be working inside the tower.

I just decided to check the webcam and wow - the lights are pretty impressive! However, I'm wondering if your view of the beautiful skyline/lights will be disrupted by the blinding LED lights above and around you?

Seems it might be more enjoyable if they turn off when you're up there. Might be TOO bright. And those things are BRIGHT.

I'll have a video up soon of the entire 8 minute light display (sped up of course). It's quite spectacular to watch and it's still amazing to see all the way from the Edison Bridge on route 2.

^ lol I'm bringing sunglasses to wear at night on the ride....:)

So here's the video I promised. I actually forgot to mention that the video isn't of the entire display. My battery was fine until I started recording in 720. So I only managed to get 8 minutes of footage. Here it is in a 3 minute format. Also, the quality isn't 720 but it's still good. It's how it rendered in Sony Vegas. :P

Enjoy!!
