It was supposed to be 740 feet or so. The plans were disapproved and they tried for the smaller 500ft version. Once again disapproved. The residents in the area didn't want all the noise. Nobody wants quiet, peaceful las vegas to have such a loud coaster to make noise. ;)

And the ride isn't actually that tall. If built, it will be built ON the building, so it's actual height won't be that much.

No, it actually would be THAT tall, as the ride itself drops "off the side of the building" as stated in the article. There is already a coaster ON the building, the one being talked about here would essentially use the building as a support. As far as I know, this plan has been tossed around for quite some time, and I could see it actually happen sometime in the future. Who knows.

This news artilce is from April 25, 2003. The taller 700 version was shot down last year, this one still has hope.

Anyhow, it says it's a 'ride,' not a roller coaster. A teeter-totter ride at that. Let them have it if they want it.

I'm not sure everyone's reading the article properly. The 510 ft. coaster is in the Supreme court; the "teeter-totter" has been approved.

The 700+ ft. coaster got shot down quite a while ago, which is not even mentioned in this article.

Makes me wonder though. If they keep adding rides to the top of this building was the building designed to keep taking on the added weight? I'm sure it was but sometimes you just got to wonder.

I'm sure the building's ability to support the extra weight is one of the first things they go through when proposing a new ride.

It's actually a legitimate concern... There has been some who have questioned the designers choices of adding rides to the structure...

You would think that people would plan that stuff, and calculate stress on the structure, but sadly, not everyone in this world thinks in terms of logic... Some think in terms of dollars and cents...

I remember the old plans for the "fish hook" coaster that was gonna go up the side. Too bad that never happened. It probably would have been quite the eyesore though.

Yes the plans did go through the "ride" is called X-Scream and Its on top of the building and "teeter tooters back and forth.
