Dragster May Close for Rest of Season

this just makes me realize how truly LUCKY we were to get in the two laps we did...lucky lucky lucky...

it would be a shame to have to close it for the rest of the season, but at least they are TRYING, unlike SFGAm, whose DelayJaVu STILL stands idle...

Yeah thats it a park just says "nah, i dont want to even try to fix a coaster." come on Six Flags trys just as hard to get thier coasters working too.

Close it only as long as it takes to fix it. If that's for the rest of the season, then so be it. But the off season will be here soon enough and they'll have a nice 6 month long winter to deal with all its miserys.

I was super before Superstew was cool!

All I care about is that I rode it. It was the shiz.
The parts of Top Thrill Dragster that are causing the problem are from Switzerland. The hydraulic fluid MUST absolutely MUST stay clean, or it can cause very serious damage to the other parts of the ride. Actually, and ironically, by family runs a small amusement park in Michigan and they have hydraulic fluid issues in a ride too, I wish I were going to CP more than once this year :( I have been so busy though....

Cedar Point and Intamin are working their hardest...Intamin, being Cedar Point's (World's Greatest Amusement Park) premier engineers dont want this to reflect poorly on them, the worlds tallest ride is at a standstill? How does this make them look....

I posted this once before about why they didn't consider using steam for the launch like they do for the catapults on aircraft carriers. And this in fact was brought up at the Coastermania Q&A session. Monty said that the number one problem using steam for the launch is the issue of the very large power plant necessary to produce the steam. And I think there would be bigger safety concerns if you were using that much steam at such a high pressure. Especially repeatedly every 30 seconds or so throughout the day.

Maybe the construction guy who took a leak on the wall of the photo building is responsible for "contaminating" the hydraulic system. :)

I am not bummed out about TTD closing and possibly colsing for the rest of the summer, it will be back in action next year, have fun at Magic Mountain, knee deep is trash!

Wow!

I am awed. I thought it would never come to them even saying that they might shut down for awhile.

But some how I don't believe that it would stay down that long. If they fixed it in August and believed it would work reliably I think they would go ahead and open it again then.

But that was a pretty bold move though to announce that its possible. WOW

I didn't think the problem was that bad guess I was wrong.

Worst case scenario for me at the end of next month during my yearly visit is, I will be shooting pictures of reprofiles instead of photographing the coaster running.

Best case scenario is I will be putting my camera in a locker and accelerating to 120 mph.

Either way, there are 67 other rides to get extra one in on. And I have never had a bad time.

Intamin has created some of the best coasters at Cedar Point. I would hate to see Dragster be the last.
I agree with Og. The CP/Intamin combo has created some of the best coasters on the planet, some of my favorites, too. It would suck to see that end! Just think of the coasters they could build.... We just need to think happy and get through this stupid problem!!!

I'm sure the park and Intamin looked at two options:

1) The ride opens but the threat is still there for contaminants and serious damage to the equipment, which would mean brand new equipment.

2) Find the problem and fix it before it creates a bigger problem.

I hope to god they looked at more then just those two options...

Mr. Kinzle gets all my respect. It takes balls to admit you have a problem.

This year has just been no good for the park (so far). I feel bad for CP. CRAPPIE winter, CRAPPIE spring. Invest a LARGE amount of money into something, that if anything, will bring people to the park just for a look at it's sheer size.

Lades and gentleman, welcome to the real world. Although we (and CP) are mostly unfamiliar with these types of problems (besides the weather), it's nothing new to the industry.
-I wonder how many coasters built in the "golden age" (1920s) ..and thousands of them were ... closed shortly after opening or never opened their inaugural season? Do you know how much technology they DIDN'T have then?!?

That which doesn't break us will only make us stronger. The BEST has yet to come!

Moron must not of wanted to face up to the truth or couldn't see it that far up Cedar Point's a**

Here in this article it says that Cedar Point is also looking at the possibility of rebuilding the ride. I'm thinking that this would only apply to the engines?
