Dragster in rain

Just curious...
What does the Dragster crew while the ride is down b/c of rain? Do they get moved to a different ride, go home, or just wait it out in the station?

I have usually seen them waiting it out in the station. Along with all us die hard fans who wait it out with them, TTD120, Gomez, care to add to that. ;)

^Wouldn't know, I always get lucky with temperatures between 80-55 degrees with sunny or partly cloudy skies. With 20 visits to the park in the past 4 years, I consider that very good. I see myself getting wet in the future either. :)

I don't get to the park as much I'd want to (the money for gas and friends are limited) so I try don't like wait for rides for over 2 hours. I'd rather go on other things.

Just looking at TTD is enough for me. Riding it is just an extra perk. :)

Well, I'm happy to say I received the thrill of a single-rider callout for the front seat during an unexpected downpour last Saturday... :)

Painful, yet quite a rush. One step short of being sprayed with liquid shrapnel. ;)

Let's Get Weird.

Well since I work right next to it I can tell you. They just wait it out. Its that simple. They just sit there and wait. And about every five minutes or so they say, "Top Thrill Dragster is down due to weather conditions. Top Thrill Dragster can not operate in any percipitation what so ever."

I know what you mean Dan.;)

I can say that I'd wait out the rain if I knew the rain was going to stop. My limit for waiting for it to open is 2-2 1/2 hours. If there's a possibility of opening, I usually stay close in the area so I can quickly get on it. But if I know the weather is forecasted to be the same throughout the day, I normally won’t wait. So far I’ve only had 2 trips where Dragster was closed, one in 03 and one back on May 11th.
When I went on the 11th, it was closed for high winds. The ground speed was 17 mph but one ride on Magnum and Millennium told me otherwise about the speed at higher heights. It's not that I didn’t know the wind speed at such great heights isn’t faster than ground speed; it's just that I wasn’t expecting it to be over 30 mph (which I believe is the limit for Dragster).

I got in the park early before my classmates and just sat on the grandstands for 45 minutes looking at the trains and the tower and hoped that the wind was low enough to start testing. Sadly I asked an op if it was going to open/test, but she said the winds would have to die down. And the winds were constant through out the day. And every time me and my friends passed by the entrance, I just stood there. It was a sad day for me.

That day I added wind to my list of types of weather conditions I hold grudges against.:)

That is a good one.:)

New Season of 'The Office'. TONIGHT!!!

I had it pay off for me big time last year, waiting for a rain delay. I ended up getting a last ride of the night trip, it was awsome, and only waited about an hour.

Youre going to keep rubbin that in arent you?:)

lol OH right nobody knows what I'm talking about. Well, I went the same day as Grady last year and my sis and her boyfriend wanted to leave when it started to rain. I wanted to wait but they wanted to go. Sadly I lost........well Grady was in the station when I was forced to leave left and Dragster reopened for him.

Thirded.

Its hard to imagine waiting 2.5 hours for a ride to open, when the line is rarely that long when its operating. That is the very definition of nonsense.

Brandon

Hey, I waited just under an hour that day, and we got to wait in the station where it was dry. We spent our time BSing with the ops and watching everyone on the midway trying to find a place to get in out of the rain.

I never said I did wait 2 or 2 1/2 hours, I just said I would. My longest wait ever was 5 hours. 1 1/2 hour outside, and the rest inside the queue.

And so what if I did wait 2-2 1/2 hours for it to open, Im a Dragster fan and damn proud! If we scare you, go under you're covers and put your head under your pillow because we're here to stay.:)

It just doesn't make any sense, that's all. Instead of waiting in a static line for 2+ hours, you could ride several rides, see some live shows, ride the train, play some arcade games and do all sorts of other stuff.

Nevermind, I realize there's no sense in trying to rationalize it.

I have never gone on a trip where I didn’t ride everything just because I waited 2+ hours for Dragster.

Plus it's not that I don’t want to ride other rides, it's just that I tend to want to do that only if I have friends that will take turns waiting. On occasions where I and a few others went and we waited for Dragster to open, they would go off and ride rides while I waited in line. I asked them if they could switch with me but they don’t want to wait in line. So it was either I keep the spot (usually a good spot) and let my friends ride other rides, or I go with them and give up the spot.....which I wouldn’t do.
Plus would that be considered line jumping? I mean we're technically not in the queue yet.

We (Dragster fans) don’t go to Cedar Point JUST to ride Dragster. I love going to Cedar Point and riding everything. My favorite ride just happens to be there and I’m truly happy when I ride it. And I'll squeeze every ride that I can out of the day while still getting on pretty much everything else. Basically Ive never been to CP where Dragster is the only thing I go on.
