We are crazy! You should see this commercial for this jerky. It's a bunch of guys who go up to bigfoot while he's sleeping, put shaving creme on his hands and tickle his nose making him smear it all over his face. The guys run and stop to laugh.....when bigfoot comes out of nowhere and hits one of them 20 feet backwards.:)lol

"The only soquid you can eat with a fpoon"........sorry cant get that stupid commercial out of my head.:)Ohh man. We don't have that crazy advertising here in Canada so when I was on my way to NYC last month we stopped in Pennsylvania at a Wendys I saw that. You crazy Yanks ;).
As for going into the bay, that seems unlikely. It would be cool, but unlikely, not to mention unnecessary.
Yeah, we get that while you guys get the beavers for a cell phone company (I want to say cingular, but not sure.) Those are some classic commercials. Not to mention you guys get Don and Ron while we are stuck with Melrose (sans mullet) and Clement. I'd much rather have Coaches Corner over the crap they call intermission updates down here.
Goodbye MrScott
John
I should have knocked on wood because I just saw one, but it was people in a science lab. And yea, those beavers are great (they are for Bell Canada by the way.) They came out during the olympics. I believe they will be leading the way into Vancouver 2010.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Anythign CAN be built under the water table, look at the World Trade Center for instance. Built probably a few feet above sea level, but it had a basement that went down maybe 10 or 15 stories or so. So the thing you need to think about is not CAN it be done but should it be done. Building the massive concrete retaining walls to hold back all of the water that you would have to deal with on-point is very possible, but its not going to happen no matter how much any of you guys want it to. The expense for that would just be extraordinary. Why spend money on a pit that a train going 70+ MPH into will only stay in for a few seconds when you could use that money to keep the admission price low, or to install newer even more jet propelled hand dryers in the bathrooms (those ones they have now are freaking awesome IMO). It all comes down to two things... Common sense, and Dollars and cents. *** Edited 6/6/2006 12:55:26 AM UTC by Steve4Hockey***
Just a thought and a hope.
Maybe they started this project early so they could have enough time during the upcoming off season to tear down Mean Streak and have enough room to make this ride a 500 footer.
Geez, you could fit Raptor in the inside of Mean Streak, you know, where all the un-filled queues are located. Get rid of that uncomfortable, outdated woodie and put in another tall and smooth steel ride.
Just my opinion, but unless Mean Streak is torn down, I can't see anyway this Intamin ride is breaking any height or speed records. Then again, what do I know............ :p
I think Mean Streak could be great if they just gave it some TLC and retrack it, or change the train style or something. The layout is good and it is a beautiful coaster. It's just a little rough is all!!
I am a firm believer that what we are seeing is only phase one of project 2007.IMO more changes to come to frontiertown, exactly what who knows? Not us!! Not me anyway!!
^^ GREASE DAMNIT....GREASE!!!
It has nothing to do with tracking...well it may now that upkeep hasn't been so great. You can hear the track just begging for it the entire ride. And it's not just MS it's all the woodies CF manages.
I will have to admit if you lean foward the whole ride it makes it bearable. *** Edited 6/6/2006 2:43:25 AM UTC by Loopy***

I can't say for certain that grease would help it or not. After riding a few greased woodies at KW this year it's my only deduction.
Seriously, if you think MS is bad take a trip to GL and enjoy twice the pain riding Villain and Big Dipper.

Blue Streak always seems to be decently greased, at least until the last month or two of the season.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
^ Have you rode it this year?
I have, 3 times. I will say it's probably the most comfortable woodie i've rode maintained by CF, with Wolf Bobs coming in a close second so long as it's running the old Legend train. Maybe it's a combination between needing grease and the trains not running fast enough because it's not holding enough speed through the turn to press the car against the inside of the rail. In turn causing it to continuously slap around on the track.

I haven't been on either of those two coasters since our visit during the Six Flag days in 2002.I remember a little of a rough ride on the Villain. Have they gotten worse?
Shouldn't it be running at its best early on and start to get a little rough in the later season?

Cedar Point is NOT tearign Mean Streak down for any new ride Period. It is still one of their signature coasters and a previous record holder. And is also part of their current record for coasters in a park. It may be a little rough but Cedar Point has been replacing wood on it every offseason for the past few years so I dont see it going anywhere. I guarantee that come 2007 with the new ride in the back of the park you will see ridership dramaticaly increase on Mean Streak. As it is right now Mean Streak is in a very dead section of the park which can be easily overlooked by people passing by. That will change next season with tons of people once again packed into that section of the park. Besides, as long as you keep your back off the seat. Mean Streak doesent hurt one bit. One of the longest rides at the park at a time of over 3 mins. Its not going anywhere so dont worry about it.

Just another added comment... Those of you who might put the roughness of the rides at Geauga Lake on Cedar Fair, They have been that rough since even before Six Flags owned the park. Raging Wolf Bobs has always been so rough that it actually doesent hurt, because rather than little vibrations up your back it just kind of hurls you everywhere and as long as you just roll with it its actually a fun time.

No, it wouldn't. Building the retaining walls, or "tub" as they call it, would only consist of concrete walls and a floor, very similar to a residential basement. The only difference is that the tub is typically created differently - all at once, without seams, as opposed to building a footer, then a sub-floor, followed by block walls. The tub is created so that there are no seams, which greatly enhances its ability to resist leaking.
So, building a 15-story tub with the footprint of a skyscraper is quite costly. However, building one that is only 1-2 stories deep, and with a footprint that's about the size of a typical home would be much, much less expensive. Adding such an element would be a mere drop in the bucket when compared to the cost of installing any $15+ million attraction. If I had to guess, I would say it wouldn't exceed $100,000. That's only a 0.67% increase in overall construction costs.
However, the real concern would be whether or not CP is brave enough to do something like that. While the risk of leaks and other problems is relatively minute, such an even would likely completely disable the ride. So, you'd have a $15 million dollar ride sitting dormant because of a leak. However, CP would certainly have to install a pumping system, akin to a sump in a residential building. They'd likely build the system so that it could remove water quickly enough that the ride could stay operational through anything but a very major breach. Assuming the pumping system would cost another $50,000, and now the total is up to $150,000.
Note that these figures are completely arbitrary, and just meant as an example of the relative cost of such a project. I would love to see CP add an element like this, but in all likelihood they won't.
