I've pretty much followed the posts of "Project 2007" so if i've happened to miss someting that covered this please dont lunge at me with a plastic fork!
Over the years i've followed the happenings of the park like building of Millennium force, WT and Mantis (plus others), and these were all done in the off season. It seems that what ever Ceder Point is building now is quite in depth (the others are too) but do you think "Project 2007" could have been done in the off season? Just looking at your thoughts of why and why nots on this.
Thanks,
Greg

Excuse me, but how on earth should we know? We don´t even know what it is yet (other than a red Iintamin coaster). I guess CP has their reasons for starting this early.

Plastic fork or not ;), I just don´t see the relevance of the question. How can anyone know if it could have been done in the offseason, when we don´t even know what it is yet? Should someone say "Yeah, I think they started this project too early, they could have waited, because blah blah..."? Not to sound grumpy or anything, I just don´t get it ;) I´m sure there´s a timetable to follow, and I´m sure everthing has been planned out.

This past off season was dedicated to site clearing. Remember, the park had to remove WWL and clean up the area in order to prep the stie for construcion of this new attraction.
It may have been different for Raptor, being that Mill Race didn't take up a large footprint like WWL did.

We don't know what kind of ride it is yet, so we can't really say if it could or couldnt have been done in a shorter amount of time. ;)
Who cares what cedar point does. As long they keep providing us thrills year after year.

Arguing with a coaster enthusiast is like wrestling with a pig in mud. After a while, you realize the pig enjoys it.

I think its safe to say that, no, it could not have been done in the off-season. Otherwise, they would have. Construction is expensive - especially long projects that take more than a year. Its not simply man-hours they're spending money on, remember. Every piece of equipment - from office trailers to excavators - on that site costs money every minute that its there. So, its not probable that CP would just decide to start building this thing a year before they needed to, just so they could have a nice, relaxed schedule.
Whatever the reason, this coaster needed some extra time to complete, so they started when they needed to, so that it will be up-and-running in May 2007.

If this project is bigger than the normal project, they would want to get an early start in case of a bad winter.
TTD was very far behind when it opened because of a terrible winter season. I'm sure most of you remember on opening day the gold train wasn't on the track and only three of the six trains were able to run due to them not being done with the needed testing for the state to give them the all clear.

Construction planners do account for weather-related delays, but they wouldn't add an excessive amount of extra time.
Remember - time is money.
