Do you wish the Jumbo Jet was still around?

Tig'rr at Indiana beach is a very similar ride. Basically cross the lift of Whizzer with Tigg'rr and you will be really close to a Jumbo Jet.

Thats right Virginia, I am Santa Claus.

I couldn't remember the Jumbo Jet until I went to the Virtual Midway site. It was my first coaster also and I found it to be a fun ride. I miss it along with Earthquake and the Pirate ride. The latter 2 were a bit cheesy but still had thier moments. I rode the Jet back when I was a kid (I'm 46 now so it has been a few years) but I have many fond memories of these rides. Now I bring my kids to the Point and will make some new memories on some new rides.

After being away for 20 years and living in Tennessee, I was amazed on how much it had changed. And for the better.

I case anybody wonders why the JJ's were removed, I can say what my mom says, she worked there '76-'78.

Apperently the ride was a maintnance nightmare. The ride was almost never open all day and when it was the crew even has a party. My mom was amazed that that ride went anywhere but the junk yard after CP got rid of it. This ride was one of the few true lemons of rollercoasters.

If you don't like it, Shut Up and don't get in line.

That's awesome Dan the Man. I thought I saw them always getting stuck on the spiral, and also welding the big helix in the afternoon.

I would love to see the jumbo jet make a come back two the point. That would up the coaster count to a sweeeet 18. The jumbo jet was a popular coaster back in the day, and it was the first coaster guest ran to like they do with TTD and M force. If cedar point did bring back the jumbo jet the spiral lift should utilize lims instead the old electric contact rail that was used with motors in the trains. Bottom line, the jumbo jet was a very fun coaster to ride and for those who remember it, it would make a good addition to the park again.

I don't remember that ride. I am having trouble finding a picture of it. Could someone help post a picture of it?

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs

The Jumbo Jet was a great ride but I'm not surprised if it was removed because it required a lot of maintenance.

I always thought the trains were interesting because they did not have restraints. You just sat in them like a flume ride, and the positive Gs through the turns kept you planted in them. I today's legal climate, they would probably have to put some type of restraints on them.

How about what was built after Jumbo jet was removed...:) :) :0

I've read that some Jumbo Jet's had jet engine sound effects audible, especially when the cars went down the first drop. Kinda like a jet taking off or something. Can anyone confirm if CP's Jumbo Jet had sound effects too?

If you have ever been to Canada's Wonderland either they do or did have a coaster in the middle of their mountain. From the station you went around the side of the mountain and then inside where you were greeted with 5 or so Helix curves a brief run outside then back in for a few heleixs then back to the station. It is very short and brief the one time I rode it, it went for two cycles. This was about 1995ish.

It is billed as a mine train ride, but generally it appears the same concept. A lot of helix curves. I am too young for Jumbo Jet so can anybody who can compare and rode both make that connection?

Just your usual come and go poster. One week I am here, then I disappear for a while.

Just for reference, here is a picture of the Mack from Canada's Wonderland. This was taken prior to re-building it into the mountain to give a better idea of the overall layout. It appears to be about half the length of a Jumbo Jet. Also, it does not have a spiral lift and a nice first drop. It is more flat in appearance.

WOW! It certainly feels a lot bigger than that. I suppose the darkness does indeed make that ride better.

The facts page mentions the possibility the track layout was changed when moved into the mountain.

No the Jumbo Jet did not have any sound effects, just the rattling metal noise like the Wildcat does now. I would love to see it come back, but the legal nightmare of fixing the seating situation, and the maintenance nightmares will never allow that. It never ran in any sort of rain! One drop and they would shut the thing down. I've also read that the thing vibrated so much it actually would move, and every week or so they would literally have to drag it back to its proper location. Not sure about that though.

Don't laugh, it was the 70's, but I actually wore platform shoes one day so I would be tall enough to ride!

I was an employee when Jumbo Jet ran, and it was then the most spectacular coaster at the Point. It was the largest of the portable Schwartzkopf Jet coasters, and made quite a sensation when it arrived. (Everyone was amazed that any coaster could hit the 60mph mark). If you missed it's run at CP, you may have ridden one of the other models at BGE (Glissade), NY Coney Island, Morey's Piers, or elsewhere.

It did not have sound effects, and it was in no way similar to the Blauer Enzian (Thunder Run) at CW. The Jet Star coasters are the closest thing, although smaller. The fact that there were no restraints didn't faze anyone- the tandem seating, the high side rails, and the fact that there were no negative g's to speak of kept everyone in safely.

My favorite memory was when a bunch of us were approached by CP photographers (we were all in line cashing our paychecks) and asked if we wanted to ride Jumbo Jet multiple times for a photo. Those that took up the offer were told to go home, put on regular clothes, and come back to the ride. They paired us up like young couples on a date-I got Kathy from the Earthquake and we went straight for the front seat) We road the ride 8 or 9 times and each time they took our picture at the point where the ride made the tight.helix. We had a blast and we never knew what became of the shots until the CP employee yearbook came out and we were on the cover. Then the following spring the same shot appeared on the front of the Cedar Point rack brochure. I've somehow lost track of the brochures, but I still have my yearbook.

Do I wish it would come back? Nah.

I know a few of you say that the Jumbo Jet was a maintenance nightmare. But look how much maintenance it takes to maintain the roller coasters that Cedar Point have today. It's not cheap. As for the Jumbo Jet, maybe it was the motor in the trains that coast a lot to maintain during that time.Who knows. But not for one second will i belive that the coaster moved from the spot where it was instaled. If that was the case, the Wild Cat should have been removed a long time ago. LOL. It would be cool to see the Jumbo Jet make a come back to the point. And NO THE MAGNUM XL 200 IS NOT SINKING!!!!! Happy 20th Birthday Magnum. KEEP ON COASTING.

I read in a previous post that the Jumbo Jet reached speeds of 60 mph, is this actually true? I know at other parks that had JJets, their speed was always exaggerated for 'hyping' purposes, and maybe because of the quick drops and turns it 'felt' like 60 mph. Also, were some of the turns banked at 70 degrees like they say? Just seems a little steep for a coaster back in the seventies...

Yes it's true that those intense curves on Jumbo Jet were banked at 70 degrees. As for the speeds, I would say around 45 to 50 mph. The trains had no restraints but those well padded high red arm rest and high g forces the ride created was more than enough to keep you from falling out. Another thing I remember is that the trains had round low seat backs which was a little intimadating if you sat in the last seat of the second car. Oh what fun that coaster was.I have a lot of fun memories of Jumbo Jet.
