Hi y'all! This is just a post from an "old-timer" (CP Food Operations 88-91) that was wondering if some of the then popular "watering holes" in and around Sandusky still exist and if so if they're popular. Of course there was/is "Louies" (probably the best "dive bar" ever) and then "the Villiage" (out on 250/Milan Rd. - a bit more "happening" a place - where you'd go after an hour or so of Louies), but there was also a couple of bars downtown, Daley's and Brandy's as well as a place down the street that runs between Bayside & Commons called "EastSide" (I think). Oh, and I believe there was/is a sports bar called "Poons" (yes, that was the name!) on Perkins Ave.
I know that Louies is alive and well (by occasionally checking the posts on this site) but what about any or all of the aforementioned bars? On my trips to CP over the past few years I'll leave a little early and cruise around town just to see what has changed, but it's usually getting dark and sometimes traffic will only let you go so slow, so I can't stop and take a look around or stare at building signs for very long.
If any or all of these places still exist, what is the atmosphere like?
The Village is closed (actually demolished). Daly's is still there and going strong. I believe the place that used to be Brandy's is now Cabana Jacks, which has live music most weekends.
I don't know about EastSide, but a new night club is opening up on First Street inside Lyman Harbor.
The 800 Club is still around, as is the Fireside Lounge.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
