Discrimination

After a long day at the Point, walking around and around and around, my CP puppies are killing me!

As crazy as it sounds, I actually bought special prescription glasses to use at Cedar Point. (Although they will be useful in many other areas, also). They are called Rec Specs. They are essentially special protective goggle type glasses made for athletes. They have no side frames at all, just a short extension from the frame, and a very wide, strong, adjustable strap that goes around the head. I bought them because I spent all last summer afraid my glasses would be ripped off my face, even with the strap I had on them. Plus, whenever I am at Soak City, or swimming anywhere, I hated being stone blind the whole time.

I can testify that they work like a charm! The stay on your face on like they are glued there. Last weekend, the wind at the top of Magnum's first hill was very stiff, and they stayed put. I never even felt them shift. They worked great at Soak City, also. I tested them by looking directly up at the water cascading down from the rocks on Renegade River. The water dumped in my face with considerable force, and the glasses stayed in place. They also did great in the wave pool.

The lenses are polycarbonate, and are highly scratch resistant, and practically unbreakable, and they are also "transitions" lenses, which means they get dark in the sun, and lighten up when you go inside a building. No more carrying spare glasses to swap out at night, or when watching shows. They will also be handy for doing lawn work, where things can get flung up from power equipment, and also for shooting, because they completely cover my eyes, and are most definitely safety glasses.

I realize this solution is not for everyone, and I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to purchase them. The fact that I wear glasses is my problem, not Cedar Point's. They are not required, in my view, to make any special arrangements to accomodate my needs in this area. I guess the only drawback I have found with them is the "raccoon" effect from the sunburn I got yesterday! *** Edited 6/10/2004 8:27:56 PM UTC by Tank***

uhhh fastcar01 how do i put this.......I don't think you should be discriminated against because you have glasses, I think you should be discriminated against because you're incredibly stupid. Of course you need to take your friggin glasses off, unless you want them to fly off and break or potentially hit somebody. The reason you can't put your glasses on the station is because you get off at a completely different station. Just my 2 cents....

This is just crazy. First of all, poor vision does not come under the disability policy.

Get over it, you should have just bought a strap and be done with it.

Oh, and from the CP website:

"Glasses* must be secured. (*Millennium Force, Power Tower, Top Thrill Dragster and Wicked Twister riders must secure their glasses with a tight fitting strap around the back of the head to ensure the glasses do not fall off while riding). "

You can find that here

I have poor vision myself (-7.5). You have a choice of buying a strap, getting contact lenses or having lasik surgery. Do one of those and stop whining.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Alright... let's play nice, he hasn't responded in awhile so I think he finally sees our points of view.

The Amazement Park

The straps are sold in the Speed Zone store right next to TTD. I was pleasently suprised that they were under 2 bucks! CP could charge double that and people would still buy them.

No, he doesn't see them. He wears glasses, remember?
Last week they were actually selling the straps at the enterance to TTD.

I guess someone must have complained :rolleyes

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!

This has to take the cake of the worst debate someone has had with a CP rule.

Like i said in my other post, I think it's common sense that you wouldn't be permitted to wear glasses on the ride. As others have said, TTD does not enter and exit via the same area, so even if you did leave your glasses, how do you propose you'd have gotten them back? CP is not responsible for your disagreement over a simple rule.

I don't even see the problem here.

I was stupid enough to leave my glasses on at MGM studios on the Aerosmith Rockin' Roller Coaster and nearly lost them on the first loop. Had my arms not been up they'd have been gone, and I'd have been stuck in Florida with blurred vision. You should be happy that the staff at CP cares enough about your well being, as well as the well being of all the other guests whom your glasses could have whacked in the head.

I'm interested in hearing the response CP sends out to you. Be thankful it isn't me writing it.

Yawn. Find something else to complain about. My wife never enters a park without a strap, not because of park regulations, but because she's smart enough to know she doesn't want to risk losing her expensive Armani frames.

One word: Pockets. Another Word: Straps. And my final statement, GLASSES IS NOT A DISABILITY. My $1.40 (2 Cents plus state and federal taxes)
Any time you ride any attraction whilst wearing glasses it's wise to have a strap on.

-snigger-

darling- in your avatar are you wearing straps?:)
lol. this is really funny. I thought it would be about like, racial discrimination or something crazy. I was like basically born with my glasses.... always zipped them up in a pocket on rides. Now I'm a big girl and have contacts. the end.

Magnum still rocks.

alright lets get a collection going the whole ONE dollar it costs to rent a locker 20 feet away from dragster, everyone throw in a nickle because of his "disability"

heartbreak, a fake smile, and 2000 miles- MEST

This is directly from the CP website. WHen you look at the ride descriptions page it says Loose Articles mus be secured with a "loose articles being a link that leads you here

LOOSE ARTICLES
Corkscrew, Demon Drop, Mantis, Millennium Force, Power Tower, Raptor, Top Thrill Dragster and Wicked Twister: These rides cannot accommodate any loose articles including cellular phones, pagers, hats, cameras, stuffed animals, purses, backpacks, umbrellas, drink bottles, etc. Items must be safely secured in a cargo pocket or waist pack or left in a locker or with a non-rider. Glasses* must be secured. (*Millennium Force, Power Tower, Top Thrill Dragster and Wicked Twister riders must secure their glasses with a tight fitting strap around the back of the head to ensure the glasses do not fall off while riding).

I don't want to offend anyone by my asking, but can I put my glasses in my pocket while I'm in line for the Dragster, or do I have to put it away before I get into the queue line? If I have to take them off before the line, I would be disappointed because I wouldn't be able to see as well. Yet, I'd deal with it and wouldn't let it bother me that much to ruin my day. I mean, you go 17 seconds without your glasses, big deal.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

If you have a "cargo" pocket, they will just let you wear them in the queue as long as you put them away before boarding.
