Disastor Transport in 3D?

I've been to CP just twice -- in 1997 and 2001. I'm heading back for CoasterMania! in June. Looking through the Getaway Guide the picture for DT has everyone wearing what looks to be 3D glasses (or the non-3D type that produce kaleidoscope effects with lights that they have at planetariums and Disney-MGM's Osborne Lights).

Is this new? Is this an every day or affair (or just for something like Halloweekends)? Are the glasses free? If this isn't an every day affair can I bring my own if I have them and are the effect that much cooler?

Sorry for the questions. That photo in the guide threw me for a loop.

-It was new last year.
-Everyday.
-$2(I think)
-Can't help you on that one
The glasses are mostly for the que line area.

Does it stop at 420 feet in the air.......?¿?

Heck, if you're cheap, just stand by the exit and ask people if they still want their glasses. I had to sit by that exit for 2 hours (don't even ask) last year waiting for some people to get off, and a lot of them don't want them afterwards.

haha, I tried the asking people for them before. I just gave up after a while, I wasn't really worried about getting them. I was bored one day and we had a lot of time to kill. haha.

Is it even a nice effect? I think it'd be nice if it was like Universal Studios FL was, with spiderman and a few other rides. They just had huge bins you would grab glasses from, then at the end they had another bin you put them back in... worked out great. (but I don't know if DT is worth the time and money for CP to do that)

How were you bored? You were at CEDAR POINT!!!!!

i hate to say it, but it actually wasnt a nice effect- really the only placed they were useful for was in the line waitng to ride DT, they had a lot of flouresent lights and 3d paint but that was all the glasses worked for, b/c they didnt have anything in the ride that was 3D, its all dark with the star lights(new for 2002)

But it was still nice that Cedar Point did something to Disaster Transport to make it look half decent

Feel the Beat

Beat Jeff gives a good point. Disaster Transport is not exactly what it used to be. Cedar Point should do something to it, like take off the shell and return it to Avalanche Run, now THAT would be interesting to see. ha, i see it now, everyone runs to Top Thrill Dragster and just completely misses that Disaster Transport is in the buff! eh, they REALLY need to improve that ride. DESPERATELY!

While Kinzel is CEO I doubt we'll see Disaster uncovered. The ride is too loud and he lives nearby.

I doubt we'll ever see DT come out of it's shell. One of the reasons it was closed up in the first place was the lake breezes were blowing sand into the trough.
I honestly doubt they enclosed the ride for Kinzel. I remember hearing that the main reason the ride was enclosed is because the "bobsled" theme quickly lost it's appeal, and they didn't want to take the ride down. Since the ride is incredibly tame, I can see how this is possible. The darkness really gives it a fast unpredictable feel. Of course weather factors just as rain and wind blowing sand were also probably other reasons.

Actualy , the real reason it was enclosed was because the beach sand was getting into the through and messing with the ride. The rumor about kinzels wife is nonsence(not that i am a big fan of her or anything).

As far as the theaming goes....well it sucks. The only decent part of theming the ride has is in the q area. The actual ride theming sucks. And who's bright idea was it to put carpet in the q line anyway?

But, from what I heard, dt may have a few suprises in store for us this year.

Surprises? like DT being removed? or, like theming being restored?

Sarcasm, I love it.

Hopefully the latter. I used to worship DT but the fact that it has now become nothing but a ride through a bunch of dark rooms (minus the very final room), it does nothing for me. They really need to either scrap it or restore it to 1990 status (translation: when everything was actually good)
or make every dark room you go through completley pitch black so you dont have to see the horrible theming of going to Alaska.

Well I really don't know about those of you who would like to see the ride uncovered. If you have been on one of these rides, they are usually pretty lame. Only one I have been on is Rolling Thunder previously at Six Flags Great america, but even then, I remember that ride was SO boring. I think thats why they enclosed this ride, and when I rode it for the first time last year, I thought it was pretty exciting for that type of coaster :)
