It is unique, and it can be fun, don't get me wrong. I just don't think the ride is that great. The waits are way too long for the ride that it is, and the building just looks.. horrible.

If this were a 10 minute wait coaster, I'd like it a lot better, I think, and ride it more often. But when I have to give up an hour, or more, to stand in that warm dark building, for a medicore coaster (at best), it's just not worth the time away from the rest of the park, to me.

Looking forward to Cedar Point- July 4th-5th, 2007!

^^ Nice long pause for dramatic effect.

I was thinking about building a DT model. I figure it shouldn't take too long. Simply paint a big "12E" on a cardboard box and stick two ends of a vacuum cleaner hose into it and . . . voila!

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.

I never got to see (or ride) it when it was Avalanche Run as the hubby and I didn't make it to CP in 1985 before I got pregnant, and it was another 4 years before we went back. We decided to wait until Ian was tall enough to ride the coasters before taking him.

I did get to see the theming when it was new and worked, and the robot was somewhat entertaining. It was a novel thing to stand in line for it in air conditioned comfort as well.

Although the theming has gone to hell, I still like the coaster itself. I'd hate to see them remove it.

Best. Project. Ever.

DT serves an important function: it's a dark ride. Sure, it's really a coaster adapted to an indoor environment, but it's a unique experience. I don't know of any other indoor bobsled rides out there.

Tilapia Studios - Answering the question, "What do you do in Sandusky in Winter?"

I liked the Avalanche Run Better to see Lake Erie and the Park too. Which you also can see the Lake and the Park from the other Coasters too, and the Sunrise and the Sunset.

jwhoogs, Flying Turns was like DT in that it was patterned after a bobsled ride, however the Flying Turns had a train with three or four cars that held two people front to back (like the old Witches Wheel bench). Also the layout was significantly different. In concept they are, imo, the same thing.

With that out of the way i have to say that i like it better in the dark. But i do also agree that it feels slower than it did at the end of the ride like what PB-reader was saying. It's a nice ride for the lineup at the park and is worth the time and money for the park.

I would also say that i wouldn't complain if it made way for an improvement to that part of the park. I have long championed the return of the old pattern of the park with the boardwalk running along that part of the beach.

I can't say that i've ever waited an hour for the ride in 22 years, or had to make the choice not to. It typically isn't thought of highly by those older than ten. :)

What's a dark ride? To me a dark ride is what the old earthquake ride and Pirate Ride was. Or go to Disney World and ride the Peter Pan ride, Haunted Mansion, and Spaceship Earth.

DT is just a crappy coaster put indoors to maybe make it better.

Unless of course you literally meant dark ride, in that case then yes, it is a very dark ride, they don't even bother turning on any light effects some days. :)

The real estate the ride sits on is the most bothersome thing to me. The opportunities for making a much nicer attraction in that area would be very simple. As for a family ride, there a very many to choose from, even a spinning mouse ride would fit in great. Just get rid of the ugly building.

Does anyone know for sure the ride was enclosed primarily because of the sand? Or, was it another maintenance problem? If it really was the sand, couldn't they move the ride to another area not near the beach? Granted, they don't have much room to put a ride with a footprint like that on the other side of the park, but it could be an option. I wouldn't mind it going away, but I did like it as Avalanche Run and when it first opened as DT. I'd even be ok if the ride was completely dark and the queue was cleaned up so it was just a plain queue without any rundown "theme".

Is it possible for them to enclose the entire like like a dark water slide? Like, basically have it just be one big tunnel? That wouldn't be so hideous to look at and could possibly be very fun.

When did the theming start to go bad/disappear? I just remember it being alot neater, with more scenery/lighting effects during the ride when I was younger, but I don't know if it has really changed that much or the younger me was more impressed by what scenery there was...

I think all the theming 'lost control' near the end of the ride there.
