Disaster Transport Question

I don't work at Cedar Point but I want to as soon as I turn 18. My question is, are there any plans whatsoever to restore all the original themeing to Disaster Transport? I'm one of the very very few hardcore fans of that ride and it pains me every year when I see less and less of the themeing being used on that ride. Thanks!
As a former crew member, I can say this: while there don't seem to be any hard plans to restore the original themeing, every year there are changes made to the ride that help enhance what themeing remains. I love the ride myself, always have, and I do hope that it is restored and/or vastly upgraded, but who knows what management will decide! Ah well.

Did you ever get to see or walk around the inside of the ride with the worklights on and without being in one of the shuttles?
Every night! We have to trackwalk -- literally, for Disaster, you walk inside the track to check for obstructions and pick up lost objects (hats, sunglasses, change, and various INTERESTING items). There are two sets of lights: "show" lights are those that operate when the ride is running and mostly dark, and then you have the working lights that are just like a regular warehouse, more or less. Working Disaster was always a blast, because, in my opinion, it is the most unique coaster to work! :)

Though I'm not sure if you know this, what is the significance of the part of the ship hanging on the wall in the one room. I always thought that it was supposed to be a part of YOUR ship floating into space because it happens right before the "I'm losing control" part
Hmmmm... I never interpreted it like that, actually, that's a very good thought! :) I'd think if you lost that much of your hull, though, you'd have bigger problems than losing control! That is the area of the ride where the out-of-control-renegade satellite attacks, so it could be. I always liked the "1701" on it -- the serial number of the Enterprise in Star Trek, if any fans noticed. :)

If you want some other details of the ride and running it, don't miss the Disaster Transport part of my website!

Ok here's a silly question...how does DT keep from falling OUT of the bobsled??

mikey :)
:) How does an inner tube keep from falling out of a waterslide? Same way. The shuttles don't move high enough on the walls to be thrown out. Also, there is a lip of sorts on the edges of the trough so that IF a shuttle were to get that high, it would hit that and not be able to get out anyway. But this is why DT doesn't run in the rain: when the trough gets wet, the ride gets wilder, which means it can get much higher on the walls, and be a lot rougher.

Thank You...Thank You...Thank You, Crystal Kat...you have no idea how much better that makes me feel. Especially with the DT 80 only 2 days away ;)

Dosen't the ride have small side friction type wheels for that lip?

Yes it does
CrystalKat: does the trackwalk include the "tube" portions of the ride (between blocks) where there is no catwalk, scenery, or anything else, but just the tube?

It looks like you would almost have to crawl through those sections.
Yup! When you trackwalk, you start from the unload station and work your way backwards - for the first hundred or two feet there is a catwalk (this is where shuttles may stop if the ride is backing up), then you're in the trough all the way up to the top of the lift. That includes the tubes, so don't forget your flashlights! And they're not small at all, you don't have to bend down or anything at all -- I don't remember ever worrying about the space, and I'm 5'6", there's no problem.

Do you ever get to walk around in the scenery? LOL, btw did you ever find anything interesting? Like one of those huge stuffed Pokèmon?

I wish I had one! :) No, you don't get to walk around in the scenery for the most part, but when they were closing up the room that is now made of sheet metal I did get to be up on the platform with the robot -- pretty neat, actually. As for finding interesting things in the trough, well, loose change is always around, sunglasses and hats, normal "lost on the ride" sort of stuff. Once we found an inflated red bulldog, still inflated and we couldn't figure out how long it had been there to actually stay alive.

Just discovered this site, so sorry for missing the first part of this story... Can someone fill me in on what happened to the "original theming" and why the "atmosphere" of this ride as I remembered it from a prior visit 10 years is so watered-down? I went to CP last week and was disappointed that the robots and other goodies were absent!! Why???
CP has never really been big on themes...

*still thinks the Power Tower is crap compared to the Demon Drop*
DT doesn't attract a large audience like Magnum or Raptor, CP doesn't consider it wise to maintain effects on a ride with such low ridership except on hot days...sad really, it had so much potential in it's early years...but I still love it.
