Disaster Transport History

The Paramount parks have some areas with really intense theming, right? Hopefully Cedar Fair is keeping the people at Paramount that know how to create/maintain themed environments or those parks are going to start to suffer.

I wish they'd either return Avalanche Run or fix the queue to be themed again. Did they enclose it because AR was too difficult to maintain in the elements? Or, did they just think it would be cool? :)

One theory is that the sand on the beach was messing with the ride.

I think they did it just to be cool. Kinzel mentioned himself that the park was looking for a cool way to follow up Magnum, which opened a year before. What they got was a "dog of a ride" in a building.

The ride was so much better when it stopped in the middle then all the blinding light flashed and you heard "WERE LOOSING CONTROL!!!! WERE LOSSING CONTROL!! AHHHH!" that was sweet, I also remember the que being longer and had a laser shooting robot or something of the sort, I was like 4 or 5 at the time so it is hard to remember

Boy does that make me feel old.

The voices heard on the ride were of the in-flight computer. I think his name was Dave.

Dave was one of the robots in the queue.. named after his handler/technician who, still works at the park.. :)

I wish the robotic Dave still worked at the park. :(

I know some of the more technical aspects of the ride must have been bad to keep up, but they could have changed strobes, lightbulbs, and cleaned cob webs!

I love Cedar Point but some of the smaller items on DT they could have kept up and kept some of the cool parts of the ride.

I would love to see some of it come back.

Most of the stuff is still there. It is just the lights and sounds that no longer work (not to mention the queues).

As for the reason it was enclosed in the first place: rain.

Even today it still goes down for rain becuase water leaks into the ride and due to the nature of the safety systems, we can no longer load guests. I can only imagine how much worse it was when it was exposed all the time.

Think Demon Drop... only worse.

So just make them full tubes and take down the warehouse. :) That might be a little freaky to have the whole thing in a tube. LOL!!

I'd like to know whose bright idea it was to put all the ventalation openings RIGHT OVER THE TROUGH. Great way to get the rain in.

Ride on!

Enlighten me. What's wrong with the queue at Disaster Transport?

I have been facinated with this ride since I first rode it in '94. I agree with most of you that it should be rehabbed. It just seems like CP's neglected stepchild, NOT a good impression of the park or company.

In a word: everything.
Its essentially a dreary shell of what it was upon first being converted from AR. None of the animatronics work, etc. And now it appears they allow "special" second graders to do the decorating.

DJ - you hit that one on the head. Whoever made the decision that small handprints with dayglo paint was a good idea should have to answer for it. Before it just looked run down, now it looks like a joke.

Dead Men Tell No Tales

This ride has always been an enigma to me.... I love it, my wife hates it, there is almost never a line, but then I was there back in August and the queue was all the way back to the guy selling glow sticks.

Needless to say we left the line, but I just dont get the whole thing.

If it is enclosed, it needs to be enclosed well enough to keep out the rain.

Also the only problem I see witht he queue - there isnt one very often anymore, so why not just make it like all the other rides, or at least play the tape so we can be partially entertained, even without the animatronics. (Think Scooby's Haunted House at PKI)

Platinum has it's perks. So does living exactly 97.5 miles from King's Island and Cedar Point

Are the monitors still behind that desk looking thing? I always thought that room should look more like a ticketing center at an airport - busy airport sounds perhaps? I always wanted to see a big arrivals / departures board somewhere in there, but, alas, by breath shall not be held.

Dead Men Tell No Tales

I would say it will be the next ride besides Demon Drop being torn down.Seems to me they just really don't care anymore about that ride.Think about it,they spent more money on enclosing that ride than they did on building Magnum. If they tore these two rides down imagine how much room they would have for a project 2010 or something??????

actaully they spentonly about half of what they spent on magnum to enclouse DT

and dont think so negitively... DT has the potential to be such a great ride...on a hot day its a real releif.. they wont tare it down....

Besides, i dont think cedar point will tare down a coaster being theyre so obsessed with holding recors for the most coasters

Yea my bad i was thinking they spent like 12 mil on it what was i thinking. It's still awful LOL
