Disaster Transport?

What exactly is Disaster Transport? I know it is a indoor ride but i heard so many things about it. Is it a bobsled like avalanch in PKD, or is it a launched coaster like Outer Limits Flight of Fear.
Bobsled. "Uniguely" themed, to say the most. It is a nice ride to get indoors for air, and for peeps jsut starting the coaster experience!

The track is similar to what they have at PKD, only much larger, solid and taller. Also, the cars are ten (?) person shuttles in rows of two, not the hope-you-like-your-riding-partner configuration of PKD's ride.

Dark coaster, themed to a space journey transporting goods to Alaska. A lot of the themeing hasn't been repaired, though, but it is still a great ride! *Grin* Try it in the evening, though, when the line isn't so long -- like an hour before closing or so. By then it can be less than a 10 minute wait, if not just a walk-on.

Tear it down!! If you they want a dark ride..they should get something like Exterminator! That would be a little more impressive!

The more you ride it, the more you want it!

tohot2se,

I didn't know there could be such a thing as a bad roller coaster. To tare any coaster down is just wrong. I mean even the worst coaster is still pretty good.

A wise man once said that sex is like pizza, even when it's bad, it's pretty good. I don't think that coasters fit in to that metaphor. Granted, I wouldn't tear down DT, but I sure would like a Reverchon wild mouse a la Kennywood's exterminator, indoor or out!

right on Jeff! Update DT, and put the wild mouse next to it!

Wow! Jeff, check the archive...I think that is the longest CP Place has ever gone without a "tear down Disaster Transport" thread! --Dave Althoff, Jr.
I like the concept of DT, and some of the elements are even interesting. I just wish it was a tad more exciting.

More like the old 'Flying Turns' and less like a kiddie ride.
Remember, even the tamest coaster is still very exciting to those riders that just top that 46" height requirement.

Exactly, Crystal...Its just some people fail to realize that.
I think that instead of enclosing it they should have built scenery around it to make it look like it was built into the side of a mountain instead of free standing like Avalanche Run was. MAybe add a tunnel to look like a cave. That is just my opinion, but I still like Disaster Transport. I think it is still more thrilling than the Mine Ride and I don't want them to tear down the Mine Ride.

I do love Exterminator at Kennywood, but I would'nt want them to tear down DT. DT is a fun little coaster, it is just...differnt. It does feel out of control, which is one part of it that makes it fun, also the beeing in the dark, is another fun part of it.

galen50, I have to disagree, the inside aspect of it is just cool. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, was'nt one of the "supposed" reasons they enclosed it was to protect it from the sand on the beach?

I think taking DT out would be a mistake, I mean how many bob slede coasters do you see. I think they should take it out the building and let it be Avalanch. I think its a good coaster just wish it was longer.

Soon it will be a very rare, and classic coaster.

Excellent idea, galen, that would be great! I'm not sure why they enclosed it, though I do know that it can't run when the trough gets wet (fishtails too much). But inside the building it has tons of downtime too, because water still gets in (fans vents over the track - great planning), and then the sun and wind aren't there to dry it out. But real avalanche themeing would be great!

The building was built, in part to shield it from the elements. Of course, like CrystalKat pointed out water still gets in.

It may just be me but didn't the queue look kind of sloppy when it was Avalanche Run?

Why did they not build a building with a slanted roof? This is Ohio, afterall. They get both rain and snow.
