Direct Deposit

Has anyone heard if Cedar Point is gonna stick with U.S. Bank/Firstar for direct deposit this season?

For the new people, Cedar Point does have direct deposit, but you have to use a certain bank in order to be able to use that option...So you might need to have a different bank account than you have at home to use it.

I doubt it.. they tend to change banks every year.. last year.. Firstar.. year before that... 5/3... year before that.. National City..

First US Bank according to this page next to the picture of Mantis...

That is the "new" name of Firstar.
They COULD use the same bank but they always changed in the past and I know ALOT of people who had problems with US Bank/Firstar last year and expressed thier problems to HR.

On a side note.. that page also contains info from last year and hasn't been updated so they COULD use a different bank.

I love 5/3. I've had an account with them ever since I started working for the Point, and have never had any problems whatsoever; lucky for me, they are all over West Michigan, so I can use that bank while I'm at school, too. (I kept my 5/3 account last year, and walked from the mall to the bank to make deposits!)

I wouldn't mind at all if Cedar Point decided to go back to using 5/3 this summer for direct deposit, because I will use that bank anyway despite what other bank CP chooses.

I agree with you Lee. I never had problems with 5/3. I would of kept my acct. with them also but we don't have any in WV. Since I moved to OH now, I opened a 5/3 acct. and I'm very satisfid..

FITB..great...
US Bank doesn't work for me, there isn't a branch anywhere close to my home, or Bowling Green where I'm going to be going to college. I guess I'll just send all my paychecks home.

You may be better off from a security stanpoint to get ACH to the CP sponsored bank and just write checks to your home bank. It aint no fun waiting for a lost payroll check, trust me! I had 2$ for an entire week the summer of '80 so I bought 10 ears of corn and 10 cans of chicken noodle soup! I lost 15 pounds and was constantly in search of party munchies and free beer. So just think about holding on to the paper checks.....

Not to knock anyone, but it is very easy to open a bank account. It takes less then 20 minutes at many banks. Even if you do not use that bank for savings, it sure makes check cashing a whole lot easier.

I have been responsible for my own savings/checking account since I started working at 16. I have opened and closed several, depending on the current finances of myself and the former companies I owned. I am not sure how it works when a person says they are going to "send a paycheck home." I guess a person's relatives would then deposit the check? If this is the plan of action, I support redbrigades advice.

Use direct deposit. It's not 100% fool-proof, but better than paper checks in my opinion.

If you can, keep a 'reserve' amount in your account for if something does happen. I personally try to keep $500 above what I write out of there so that if something doesn't get deposited in time, there's still something to keep things from hitting a NSF or charge you an overdraft.

It has happened to me at Best Buy where direct deposit didn't process correctly, and nothing went through until Monday (payday's are every other Friday). They were nice about it, and were willing to loan people cash to keep going until their deposits cleared, but it just shows that even direct deposit has its problems once in a great while.

At the same time, sending checks in the mail can be risky. Last Monday, I received mail for a different apartment, and who knows who has my mail from Monday. I now have to keep a real close eye on everything because my Social Security Number's on the payroll check, and that's bad news for me! Thank you US Postal Service.

So, both ways have their up's and down's, but if you can, Direct Deposit's the way to go. And if you want to get really nifty, you can use PayPal to transfer between accounts, or just have your bank perform an electronic funds transfer, but that may have a fee, so investigate.

Well if you consider asking my sup at the FT Inn for the throw away food at the end of the nite I guess your correct...direct deposit is good! lol

I'm thinking about getting a 5/3 account since I live in west michigan. I hope Cedar Point has direct deposit with them, but it won't be bad if they don't.

I have a Firstar /USBank acct. I've had it since I was in high school. However when I went to set up direct deposit for that acct. after running back and forth from HR and Cedars dorm I found out that CP wouldn't do so because the routing number was different.(my acct is Cincinatti based and not Cleveland) So I'm guessing (and its a fairly educated one) that if they do use 5/3 that it would be a local routing number only and not one from southern ohio or western mich.

You are right Jen.. Friend of mine in 2001 had a 5/3 account from Michigan and had to open another account because of routing numbers.

I opened an account with Firstar/U.S. Bank last year for the sole purpose of paychecks. I didnt have any trouble until when it came time to close the account. I didnt know if Id be back this year, and well we dont have U.S. Bank in Scotland (duh!)

That was one of the problems that alot of people had.

Even after going in.. and doing the paperwork to close it... they continued to charge a "maintnence fee" and failed to close the account for 2 months.

The fee's were of course dropped after a rather loud phonecall to thier customer service line and going through 2 supervisors.

I had a Firstar account for direct deposit last year. Opened it up at the Meijer no problem. Cedar Point decided to make it direct deposit (I did not ask for it to be...). Direct deposit was good though because you don't always have the time to go to the bank.

The real problem came at the end of the season with the direct deposit. Firstar said I could leave the account open if I left $10 in it, to save me the trouble for next year...so I was like sure ok. I tell Cedar Point to cancel my direct deposit, but they did not. So now I have $300 in my firstar account which I cannot access without driving 6 hours to the closest firstar. But I should be back this year, so I will get it then. Cancel your direct deposit SEVERAL weeks before you leave.

Check with the bank you're currently with. If you have an ATM card, you can usually make deposits at any ATM for free as long as it's on the same network (Star, MAC, Cirrus, etc.). Some banks like National City don't allow this, but Citizens and PNC are 2 that I know do.
