As we say goodbye to this classic ride, I fear this may be another nail in the coffin for Cedar Point. (Although that may be a little drastic) Demon Drop is one of those unique rides that not every park has, and it's one of those rides that makes Cedar Point unique. I can count only a handful of unique rides at CP currently. It appears more and more are being lost to the "Wicked Twisters" and "MaxAirs" that can be found everywhere these days. As CP turns more and more corporate, I fear it's becoming just like every other park in the nation. This is most unfortunate, considering Cedar Point's long history. It's a shame that history cannot be preserved somehow like Kennywood has done with their "Lost Kennywood" section.
Demon Drop may not seem like an classic ride now, but give it another 20 years or so, and it will be as classic as the caterpillar, whip, or tumble bug.
I could be wrong, but I'd think there's more Intamin freefall rides than Huss Giant Frisbee or Intamin Impulses. In fact, there's quite a few intamin free falls, is there not?
There was a Demon Drop clone at SFGA some years back, until 3 kids got injured; then I believe they took it out. Not sure Demon Drop is truly unique. I understand if someone who loves it will miss it, though.
mzcoaster
I thought the only Giant Frisbees in the world right now is maXair and the one at Paramount Kings Island (Edit: I've been informed that there is in fact more Giant Frisbees). And mzcoaster, that was called "The Edge", it was at I believe Six Flags Great America, and then it was sold and open in Geauga Lake as "Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall"
Edit: I've been informed that there is in fact more Giant Frisbees. *** Edited 8/17/2005 3:35:57 AM UTC by nesdude***
Here is another Giant Frisbee that is in Belgium. It has a realy nice theme.

Let's not forget about Psychlone at Canada's Wonderland.
2005/2006: Cedar Point - Millennium Force
2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator
Oh.....I didn't know that. I just knew that it was very similar, and seeing Delirium at PKI, I guess I just assumed it was Huss.

Considering that Geauga Lake is planning on removing their freefall, Demon Drop was probably only one or two remaining Intamin Freefalls left. I think the only one remaining is in Texas, Magic Mountain's version just got axed this year as well. So CP seems to be jumping on the bandwagon once again like its done in recent years, Wicked Twister and MaXair like CPcyclone said.
The Amazement Park
There are no truly unique rides at any park. There can be custom designs of rides but there is always a varient of that ride at another park. What makes a ride classic is that it's a rare ride type that people dont normally experience, its a great ride, and creates memories on the ride(such as the penny trick on DD).
I will miss DD. Even though it is a little rough when it falls back down into the upright position, I would rather ride it than PT.
Intamin: You don't need a coaster to make trains collide violently.
I swear, they could make a ride like maXair and find a way to make it collide with something.
I think DD will be there next year (unless they find someone to buy it). And I think they'll keep it in until it is sold. Of course, just to be safe, I will be riding it a few times when I go in a couple weeks.

Walt, If you could take a lot of photos of DD and make it into a new section. The Lost Rides of Cedar Point.

101 on Magnum and counting...
cedar point is still better then any orther park. and as for memories cedar point is still making them. a dad and son taking on top trill dragster or mf and getting of and smille and love it is a memorie. most people gp dont even ride it the would go to powe tower first. and you can do the penny thing on that to.and lets see they have a sweet 200 tall coaster a 300 tall coaster and a 420 foot tall that is diffent then any orther park so there not like any orther park there is just something about it that makes people love it
Well, at least I'm not the only one who gets that feeling.
CP4eva'04 - That'd be a pretty sweet thing, its been in the works for a year now (well, a whole CP history site. Don't think we've forgotten Walt) Until then, check the history tab at the top and there is a link to the old VM history pages.

I am saddened about this, but hey, onward and upward. Demon Drop wasn't something I rode every visit, but it still holds sentimental value for me.... I felt like I really conquered everything once I was brave enough to go on it. (Mind you I was probably about 15-16---yea I was a wuss!) I really hope they're not successful selling it until after next year!
