Defending Employees

I wonder if I should be posting this in the employee section instead... But, has anyone ever stood up for an employee? Those guys have it tough, and they can meet some real idiots at the park... *** Edited 8/20/2004 3:15:00 PM UTC by Cedar Dan***
Everytime i'm at Cedar Point I don't see people defending the employees, yet I don't see anyone disrespecting the employees (most of the time anyway).
Anyone who has any job dealing with the public is going to meet some real idiots. I am convinced there are more people without common sense in this world than with it.

Defend them from what? Other guests? That's not my job or my problem. I'm there to have a good time. Idiot guests are not my concern.

I know what you are saying, Jeff. But, there have been times that I have seen stupid or unruly guests bothering the ride ops. It has occurred to me to say something, but I never have...yet. Now, if it was my uncle, he probably would.

Case Example: He was eating at a Shoney's restaurant. A guest near him was complaining about his order. I think they put mayo on his sandwich and he had asked for no mayo. But, it wasn't enough for the guy just to inform the waitress. He went on and on, making a huge deal out of it. Finally, after my uncle was sick of listening to him, he turned around and said," I hope you choke on it." Funny stuff.

Becareful when complaining about food orders and sending them back to the kitchen. What they can do to your returned food would give you the willies.

I actually gave my wife hell for bitching at one of MF's ride ops. It was after a rain and the park was about to close and we had a 5 ride marathon, running from the station to the entrance. They asked me to try the test seat the first time, OK. Second time same guy asked again, I ignored him. Third time, my then fiance, decided to give em hell. So, i gave her a little quiet hell. The ride ops see thousands of faces a day and I don't see why he would remember mine. He was just trying to save me the embarassment of getting up there and not fitting and the time it would take to put someone else in that seat.
I agree with your wife. Part of good customer service is trying to remember your guests. I can understand not recognizing you one time, but twice in a row? Very extreme. For how much CP has put up with this year concerning the seatbelts, I would think that a little TLC from the ride ops would be easier than forgetting you the moment you walk by.

I always felt like a jerk when I'd measure someone, and they'd come back 20 minutes later, and I'd go to measure them again, and then remember that they just rode.

It's kind of hard to remember everyone that rides the ride, though.

That's funny you say that... You should ask around at Cedar Point. Your name has come up, to say the least. *** Edited 8/21/2004 3:39:36 AM UTC by Zero-G***

Epitome? I had to look up that one on dictionary.com. Sometimes I do want to stick up for the employee, not only at CP, but at other places as well. I'm just a softee, I guess, but, in one sense, it'd be nice if I was that employee getting yelled at to have a helping hand.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

I edited my post Sean when I realized epitome may be a bit too harsh.
I don't see why you wouldn't stick up for a employee whoss getting hell form a guest, i mean if you don't hear the whole thing than nvm, but if you hear the whole conversation and all and the employee dosen't deserve it than y not help them out and stick up for them, i know i would, jeff put your self in the position if a guest was giving you hell, wouldn't you wish that another guest would help you out or sumthin if they were just sitting there listening to the whole thing, now if you deserve than again nvm, but all i have to say is that next time you hear or see a gues being an idiot to an employee put yourself in there position and think of how bad it would feel for them to be doing that to you, and then think of how good it would feel to know that your other polite guests feel for you, and help you out with getting the idiot guest off your back!
Back in June, I was raising hell with a couple of MF ride ops. Another ride op just minutes before told me I fit OK in the test seat; the other two said I was iffy, which prompted me to get somewhat vocal (perhaps I'm understating that a bit) about the inconsistency of different ride ops saying different things to guests (in this case, ME). After all, this was a quality-of-visit issue.

In the midst of all this, a woman started giving me a bunch of crap about giving the ride ops a bunch of crap. It was a crap-rich environment.

I very calmly and directly told this woman that this DIDN'T CONCERN HER.

But she wouldn't let up. Finally, I told her that "I DO WHAT I WANT."

At that point, she really got fired up and told me: "THAT IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE WORLD TODAY, PEOPLE DOING WHAT THEY WANT!"

I ended up going to park ops, raised some hell there, and they gave me a couple of quick ride passes (I fit just fine).

But I recount this story only because it was VERY TOUCHING to see how someone not facing the issues I was confronting was so quick to intervene on behalf of the poor, beleaguered ride ops.

I generally favor minding one's own business. But if you can't resist, and I'm being an UNRULY GUEST, I'd be more than happy to engage the intervening party in a debate, or sorts.

Perhaps these altruistic types should set up camp in park ops so they can come to the defense of those folks as well.

God, I love Cedar Point.

Hell, I've gotten in many fights with CP ride operators. Like on MF. Somebody got on and had gotten the slack they needed for their seatbelt, but the ride op was being and ass and said it wasn't enough, and of course I wasn't the only guest there getting in a fight with the ride op. CP employees can be real ********. *** Edited 8/22/2004 3:59:27 AM UTC by Jeff***

Yeah for real! I was at Johnny Rockets and I was using my meal card that charges to your Hotel Breakers room account and they told me I couldn't use it. The lady said this word for word," Well this is going to put a damper on your vacation isn't it." in a real snotty tone. So finally I gave up and paid $35 for a lunce meal for two. God she was a complete ********. Boy I really hate Johnny Rockets. *** Edited 8/22/2004 3:59:57 AM UTC by Jeff***

"Baby I'm ready to go!" Dragster 2004

I've been in a situation in which I was faced with a belligerent guest whose attitude was in no way my fault, and it is reassuring when a guest who witnesses the event comes by and gives a positive comment about it.

Thank you to those of you who do defend the employees. If you only knew some of the crap we put up with all summer.

Is it just me or are a lot of posts that are based towards employees or rides, get turned into a "I hate the MF new 1 Inch rule". Because most of the complaints on this post have to do with MF. I don't exactly think people should be defending the ride ops, but their job is to run the rides. If they are told not to let someone do something then they can't do it. Simple. About Johnny Rockets, I hear you about the room charge. They did the same thing to me and my family. My dad was P.O. especially when he had to go back to the hotel room to get some cash, and when he got back his food was cold.

Yeah, I noticed you had to edit a few of these posts. Anywho, sometimes the employees might deserve a good thrashing, other times they might not. It all depends on the situation.
