Deciding on Housing

I process in May 31st and im pondering on which form of housing I want to choose. I really like te idea of being on-point for the fact its closer and good attendance is imperative - especially for future goals. The down side is the quality. I can get picky, but Ive already been given the awesome opportunity to work here, so It may be worth the low-quality, again only for good attendance. Plus I have no car and Ive heard catching the bus(on-time) can be no-fun.

Living off-point though again - is good for quality. I know its not much more cost wise, but your do live with up 9 people or so(plus or minus a few). Im considering off-point, but I want good room mates if im living in a lower quality on-point dormitory. Im not sure...its a 50/50 thing. Good Attendance/Good Quality. They both work against each other.

I'd suggest getting a car and living offpoint. That's what I did last year and I'm going to be doing this year, it worked out fine for me.

2005/2006: Cedar Point - Millennium Force
2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator

I lived off point without a car last year, and I had perfect attendance. I was late one time, and I dont think I even got points for it.

I stayed on-point last year and it really wasn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. As long as you have some fans for the summer nights and a TV with an antenna to get the basic stations, it's not horrible at all. Sure, the bathrooms aren't the greatest and all, but I found it to be more enjoyable than the Commons Dorms. Plus, you never have to worry about the bus, but can take it back to the mainland to go shopping and such. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask or IM me!

i stayed on point in 2004. it was cool especially if you woke up late had to freshen up and run inside to get there on time or if you wanted to walk around the park at night just for fun or catch the cafeteria before it closes.

Im guessing the off point housing is right where the road starts to go to cedar point and the on point dorms are right by the marina entrance? Which ones have the A/C?

that would be off-point housing with ac. we at cedars not only had fans but being by the water has it advantages. and yes cedars is right across from the marina

I'd take Cedars again if I had the choice. Remember the rooms are old, but they ARE what YOU make them out to be!

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

can you bring in a window box AC at cedars?

yes, but they will charge you extra

how much?

Enough that we didn't think it was worth it!

On-Point housing is convenient if you really don't think you'll be able to get to work on time, but other than that....it pretty much sucks. It's easy to get to work from on-Point housing, but a pain to get anywhere else. Commons has a much better atmosphere and is far more comfortable. I had friends without cars who never had a problem making it into work on time from Commons. You just have to plan ahead. And I'm sure several people on your crew have cars. Arrange to ride with them.

I think the advantages of living on point out weigh the fact that you don't have A/C or cable.
You can fix/clean up your room as much as you like.
There are less people per room. Usually 2.
You save alot on the little off-time you have by not having to catch a bus.
You can catch a quick shower or nap if you're working a split.
You can be asleep before most of the people you work with that live off point even get back to there Apt.
All in all it amounts to a more relaxed pace for the summer.

I will put it in other terms. If you enjoy an active "social life" aka drinking; live off point. On point really is quiet until a half hour before the park opens.

CEDARS:
Pros:
- wake up 10 minutes before your shift and be on-time.
- not have to deal with driving home in traffic
- go back to your room and sleep during splits
- the Employee Cafe is right next door
- park your car close by and still get to use it when you need to
- financially it's a good bet
Cons:
- if you don't like the rustic cabin feel, then move in to off-point housing
- If you have a hard time with Internationals this is a bad choice
- bathroom arrangements
- you pay for what you get
- no A/C - but you're only there to sleep

BAYSIDE:
Pros:
- apartment style living with about 6 people living there
- full kitchen (stove, full-size fridge, sink, etc...)
- apartment bathrooms
- the Recreation Center is across the street
- employee parking is next door/across the bridge
Cons:
- no A/C
- typically reserved for Supervisors or those working at Castaway Bay

COMMONS APARTMENTS:
Pros:
- multiple bedrooms that help split up the roommates
- full kitchen (stove, full-size fridge, sink, etc...)
- apartment bathrooms
- the Recreation Center is right next door
- employee parking is next door/across the bridge
Cons:
- no A/C
- 16 people living in one apartment - no real privacy

COMMONS DORMS:
Pros:
- Air Conditioning
- less roommates (typically about 3-4)
- the Recreation Center is right next door
- more employees to socialize with
- lockers to lock your stuff up in
- employee parking is next door/across the bridge
Cons:
- most expensive (or 2nd)
- most firealarms
- typically the "loudest" of all housing
- barb wire fencing

So there you have it. That's just the stuff that comes to mind. And rememeber, if you're not completely happy with your choice it's really easy to switch where you live. As long as they have an available spot.

i like ur list. completely accurate plus bayside and commons closer 2 louies

The commons apartments were nice in 1980. I only had one roomate and that was for half the summer.

Don't fret, Michael... when we room together, I'll be clean!
