day 3--10/20: short attention spans and haunted ho

so here we are at day three. get up, check out of hotel, go vainly searching for restaurant with REAL coffee. end up at Dairy Mart for to-go coffee. no better than anything we've had all weekend.

hit park and hit a walk-on Mantis. good ride, bad peeps. i liked that the ride-op said "if you need to ask yourself 'why am i sitting down on a stand-up coaster, raise your hand".

on to MF. while in line on ramp we see the other half of our group pulling in to station. we hear a "'Morning, guys" come from Magnum Dan Jr's Dad. a good laugh. nice ride. very fast.

saw the girl in the silver platform boots and mesh skirt. how badly do we need to make a statement??

off to MM AGAIN!! it stinks to be addicted to that fried chicken. have a GREAT time, laughing and talking about pie...good thing the kids with us didn't ge the double entendre there...i really thought Goat Boy was gonna die laughing.

see most frightening thing of whole weekend...woman at MM waiting in buffet line eating potato salad off her plate with her fingers...wanted to ask her about it but was too busy running away.

off to Toxic Tunnel of Terror. kids have done it before. it was OK. the Tunnel part was really cool. amazing what you can do with some black fabric and glow-in-the-dark paint.

then on to Pharo's Secret. REALLY well-done. even heard a couple of ghouls say "Thank you" as we walked through, marvelling at how neat it all was. i think they should keep this one up all year round and turn it into a dark ride. does DT REALLY need ALL that queue?

time for our friends' Freeway for MF. we decide to go with them and see if we can eke out another MF before OUR Freeway. we DO!! hit MF then get right back in line for OUR Freeway!! we discovered how to do it!! YAY!!

next-up, Gemini. only red side running. no hand-smacking for me. D'oh!! still a good ride, as we all pretended to be hand-smacking and yelling "We're WINNING"!!

time for another Maggie, but we get distracted by #16 and Camp Spooky. Emily discovers there IS a Tilt-a-Whirl at CP. she and my BF take Magnum Dan Jr on it while i do some peeking at #16. i see the catwalks and the supports with "8.5 ton" and 7 ton" marked on the bottom.

more espionage ensues on the way to Maggie. talk to the parents of a P&D guy who say that he won't even tell THEM what it is or WHEN its gonna be announced. i lean over the rail and touch the track. so cool. never touched actual track before.

then i see someone going by with a dumpster. he smiles at me and i say "you know what it is, don't you?" he says "restaurant". he must be on this site ;)...

then we find a maintenance guy who, when he realizes we've got it mostly figured out, drops some info our way...

the machanical engineer who is with us is REALLY baffled by it...we take a few "baby pictures" and Emily thinks she knows what it is...

off to Maggie, FINALLY!! (i said short attention spans). get to platform and train is stopped on lift. peeps tried to stand up...(see thread in General for more details). so we se someone get booted from park and taunted by other peeps.

people notice my jacket with patches and pins on it and start asking ME about #16. i refer them here or to Walt's site. don't want to perpetuate any rumors now!!

last two rides of trip were...MF of course. rides on Millie at dusk are incredible. just light enough to see where you are, just dark enough for park to be lit up. gorgeous. great ride. breathtaking views.

last ride was awesome!! as we pulled into the station, the ride op was running along the train (opposite directiom of train motion) giving high-fives to everyone. we were maybe the third-to-last-train of the weekend. the ride ops were REALLY pumping everyone up.

the high-fives from the ride-op really ended the trip on a great note.

off to Outback again for the farewell dinner before we headed back to Illinois and our friends to Pennsylvania.

as we were leaving, Shauna (Magnum Dan's sister) gave us some sugar packets and said they were to "remember us by"...i almost cried.

got home to Illinois at 3:30 AM and three hours later scared the CRUD out of Raptor Ralpher...hehehehe...long story.

all in all, great trip!! not about laps, not about any one thing. just taking things as they came, being mellow and having fun.

turns out that for me, CP isn't JUST about the laps, it's about spending time with people i love and truly care about.

THAT'S what makes CP special to me. everything else is just a bonus.
