I'm taking my GF and her brother to CP on Wednesday, August 17th. I understand that the crowds tend to be heavy around this time of the year, but it also says on the website that they are having some NASCAR day there. Is the crowd going to be any larger because of this?
Any advice as to how to best attack the rides on this days would be helpful also. The main rides we absolutely want to get on are maverick, millennium force, shoot the rapids, windseeker, maxair, skyhawk, raptor, gemini, magnum and maybe top thrill dragster
The crowds will probably be pretty heavy because Sandusky schools are supposedly going back a bit later this year. But the crowds really depend on the weather.
If you want to do all of those rides above, try doing Millennium & Skyhawk at the beginning of the day, then do maXair, Windseeker, and Raptor around 4 or so (people will usually start eating dinner at this time or go to the back of the park). I tend to do Maverick at the end of the night because the line is pretty consistent at 1.25-2 hours during the day. All the other rides can pretty much be done during the day.

Thanks! I figured it would be pretty bad. I am good with the heavy crowds as long as it is manageable. It can't be any worse than the crowds on New Years Eve at Walt Disney World!!
Start dates of individual school districts have no impact. Schools in the region generally start in late August and that's reflected in the operating hours.
The Wheels of Thunder event may give attendance a small boost, but I wouldn't worry about it. As has been said before, most attendance factors are easy to figure out. But you never know when weather or a special group sales situation may pop up and create a busy day.
In other words, stick with the basics and don't sweat the details.
